Ngl, if they had done Pride and Prejudice in the 90s with Colin Firth as Mr. Darcy and Kermit as Bingley, that would have been my favorite P&P.

Also Miss Piggy should be Mrs. Bennett just for the opportunity for her to karate chop Lady Catherine de Burgh out of Longbourne.

honorable mention to the 1995 BBC Pride & Prejudice mini series (I wasn’t sure if it should be included) because I have watched it more than pretty much anything else other than maybe lord of the rings

You make a compelling advocate.
If Austen herself were watching this exchange, I suspect she'd be smiling at how earnestly we all defend our chosen Darcy.

As for Pemberley... well, you describe that moment with such affection that even I'm tempted to revisit it through your eyes.

There is something universally mortifying about attempting to appear composed in the presence of someone who quite undoes you.

If the miniseries inspires that recognition for you, then perhaps it's worth the return awkwardness, charm, and all.

Ha! Now you definitely have to give the miniseries version a try. Anything less would shortchange the brilliance of Jane Austen.

For example, Firth in the Pemberly scene is the awkwardness and hilarity of all of us stumbling upon, and trying to impress, our crush.

I love how every generation is getting their own version of Pride and Prejudice.
Boomers/Gen X got the Colin Firth miniseries
Millennials got the Keira Knightley movie
And Gen Z is getting a new one with Olivia Coleman
They are all great in their own way. And I bet that Austen would be happy!

#Lockerbie is an incredible watch. It is not always easy-I found the first episode very upsetting, but it honestly brings home what happened to all those innocent people. Colin Firth is BRILLIANT in his portrayal. You can find it on Peacock. Lmk what you think, if you watch.

Just finished THE RAILWAY MAN about an English veteran dealing with the trauma of being forced to build the Thai-Burma "Death Railway" after visiting museums about it in Kanchanaburi this weekend

Bit slow, but pretty good, and gives you a good, grounded overview of what happened through flashbacks

I must admit… I’m reconsidering my decision now. Oh Lord. Truly, I wasn’t prepared for that turn.

An underground facility in Scotland… yes, that does sound familiar. I can assure you, the reconstruction process is never quite as glamorous as it appears on screen.

When I'm really into a novel, I'm seeing the world differently during that time not just for the hour or so in the day when I get to read. I'm actually walking around in a haze, spellbound by the book and looking at everything through a different prism.

Judas

Thirty years I've wandered lost in madness.
Now I stand alone
beneath these branches
and knot the rope
and loosen it
and knot again.

I tell you
you could forgive yourself
and start again.
You could open. You could find, just once,
the way.

You can't betray your one true life forever.

I know. I know that you are broken.
But do not be like me,
my little children,
and stand there at the end,
in all your wreckage,
and see that what you've done
is what they'll tell of,
that the fear to live your one life
was your one life,

and your greatest, your greatest,
most mistaken day
was your vastest chance, your vastest chance
to waken.
Fall out of love with your pain.
