DID anyone ask Tangerine Man? Did they?

DID YOU ASK?

I didn’t. I don’t think the government - did the government ask?

Byeeeee Felicia…

I don’t care for any of them but this wasn’t political choice or punishment. A senior office-holder went public without resigning, so leadership is legally and procedurally required to intervene. No discretion exists at that point. Media made this look personal. It wasn’t. It was required.

If Starmer had done nothing? It's a dereliction of duty to the office he holds.

He had zero choice in the matter. It's an automatic process or else Starmer himself is breaking the law.

It's quite literally that black and white. But you'd never have that explained by the media.

betrayed a legal duty of care to the office he already holds.

That is morally, legally and contractually impermissible. He had to be blocked and it's no one's fault but his own.

There are so many reasons why this was a terrible decision B made. This is no. 1.

One choice was a quiet, informal discussion about this quietly. He didn’t do that. That MAY have been able to be worked out. He didn’t do that.

He went public. Again I am defending no one. Literally just explaining it’s not what the media makes it sound like.

But the media doesn’t explain this. The British publish don’t understand it. Because the machinery of politics is never explained to the British public. It just sounds like Starmer being a dick. I’m a fan of none of them but I’m explaining it. Starmer literally had no choice after B’s actions.

The political rules do not accept or allow senior exec office-holders to run as MPs whilst still in post. He really did listen to the wrong people and how he didn’t know any of this is blinding.

Starmer really, as required by his role, had no choice - even if he wanted - but block him.

…unknowingly but foolishly placed Starmer in an impossible position where he could actually (and I do mean literally) could not do anything BUT block him for so many reasons - conflict of duty/interest, governance risk for the combined authority, risk of misperception of a dual loyalty and really…

The papers don’t tell you that’s how politics works though. B overplayed his popularity or position naive way, I would imagine egged on by others, without understanding how the legalities or the contractual necessities operate. Had he resigned, an announced, not an issue. He didn’t. He then…

What I am astounded by is that media or the public don’t understand their own politics in the UK. Starmer had no choice but to block B. B should’ve resigned first, at the least. Starmer was forced to do what he did. Legally, dutifully and contractually he had to block him.

Does anyone else who’s studied history ever look at what’s happening under Trump and just think “I get why they’re shocked but… considering their history, this was ripe as a possibility”?

No? Because I don’t think it’s SUPER surprising.

It cannot just be me.

…in the words of Buffy Summers: “I didn’t jump. I took a tiny step, and there conclusions were!”

Conclusions on how this will turn out for Palestine firmly drawn.

“Truffle Parmesan Fries” is possibly the most terrifying sentence I’ve now ever heard.

Can I just say, I re-read #janeausten’s Emma & I dislike Emma. It’s firmly #prideandprejudice #senseandsensability or #presuasion for me.

In #MarlonJames’ words “She knew what time it was.” Agree with @afuahirsch.bsky.social too - I appreciate the political bent of Austen more.

I’ve always kinda somehow worked around film, not anymore but… I’m obsessed with movies. I sat down and watched Room this evening.

Have you seen the one star reviews? Read them. They’d be laughably funny if they weren’t kind of alarming.

One of those guys has someone in a basement.

It’s another art form: again, if you don’t get that, you’re missing another point.

I just… I don’t understand what people don’t seem to understand. It’s not meant to be a totally exact representation of the novel. WHO SAID IT WAS?! WHO said it should be?! Let art and interpretations of it BE.

Which can sort of, thinly and weakly, be broken down to: hurt people hurt people. And other hurt people perpetuate it or strain against it and live or fail.

It’s brutal. It’s explicit, & the last thing it’s is romantic & if you can’t see that I worry about your definition of ‘romance’.

28.09.2025 23:30 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 0    📌 0

If you disagree - why? Why do you feel so viscerally that any interpretation that is not vile, violently explicit and toxic as hell is incorrect?! It is not a romance at all. If you think it was, in any respect, you need to go see a therapist because that is 100% missing the point of that novel.

28.09.2025 23:28 — 👍 1    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

That novel is super fucked up. Film adaptations give and take and edit. That’s what the medium is for. To reinterpret which is what it does anyway. I think what better director to direct a movie version of a novel like WH than Fennell?! I think she’s perfect and I honestly think Brönte would agree.

28.09.2025 23:27 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

And please tell me what movie made a decent version of this novel? None of not one was true. This is NOT a romance. It was never meant to be a romance. If you think it is, you’re not paying attention.

28.09.2025 23:25 — 👍 0    🔁 0    💬 1    📌 0

Let me just say on the topic of #emeraldfennell & #wutheringheights - it’s about deeply broken people, toxic relationships & Brönte wrote an horrifically uncomfortable, vile novel for the time & I think she’d go for what Fennell is doing with an interpretation having studied that novel for YEARS.

And yet Miranda nearly turned down an apartment because a neighbour had a yappy dog. Good lord.

None of it made sense. I honest to Christ on two nailed sticks wished I hadn’t been so curious but I was a huge gay teen fan from the start and - ugh. This was… it was a tragedy watch for sure.

Finally watched the last episodes.

New theory:
All of #AndJustLikeThat was written by AI.

I am 90% convinced. The storylines make way more sense with their nonsense this way.

You **know** he was shown how to do it because I will say this: it ALWAYS looks consistent.

And that is not a compliment to that breathing excuse of walking human skin.

It’s just a fact.
That is all.

Watching #equaliser3 & I know I don’t seem like I love action movies but… can someone PLEASE explain to me how the fuck Denzel is 71?!

I still would.

Not 3 hrs into my 39th birthday after drinks with my significant other, I’m sipping a tequila shot & watching Down Low with @lukasgage.bsky.social realising if I was 65 & single, I’d be Sandy.

“Three more can’t hurt…”
Probably not, Sands.

Probs not babes.

The implication of language used versus the sexes discussed. Jesus Christ.

This is why we tell each other to just not bother with reviews.

“…women aren’t shown to be overly stupid or overly intelligent….”

So… they’re just meant to be average then?!

I am genuinely left aghast at most reviewers for fucking anything really.

This is why artists tell other artists to ignore non-peer reviews because that shit is what you get.

I love uni students getting in touch to ask questions on poems. I do LIKE the idea of working out the meaning for yourself but I love the fact they can come to us, DM and ask questions. It’s just such an amazing thing and the questions? They blow my mind how they come at angles I never thought of!
