Armagnac, the biggest bargain in spirits Following on from last week’s Cognac piece, I thought I’d look at France’s other grape brandy with some rather more affordable recommendations.

I completely agree with you: henryjeffreys.substack.com/p/armagnac-t...

I just tried to post this article looking at the drinking alcohol in the Muslim world and it fell foul of the online safety act. I have no idea why unless just mentioning Islam and alcohol in the same sentence is enough to trigger Bluesky.

The Critic Wine Club Offer Case The Critic Wine Club is here!

If you're looking for some well-priced Xmas bottles, try The Critic wine club with Yapp Bros. I've picked some very tasty chardonnay, fizz and probably the best cotes du rhone out there www.yapp.co.uk/the-critic-w...

I'm looking for Christmas films or films popular at Christmas with interesting booze angles. Thinking the French 75 cocktail in Casablanca.

The neglected nectar of sweet Tokaji wines | Henry Jeffreys | The Critic Magazine Bem JΓ³zsef Street in the town of Tokaj was once the Hungarian equivalent of the Avenue de Champagne in Γ‰pernay.

Something I didn't realise when I visited Hungary was the strong links between Tokay wine and Poland. There was even a special wine for the Polish market which is as easy to pronounce as you would expect. thecritic.co.uk/issues/novem...

It was on Sebastian Horsley's flat in Meard St. It was once a brothel and he got tired of people ringing his bell at all hours, so to speak. Later, to bring in a bit of cash, he did rent it out during the day to a prostitute but kept the sign up.

"Not expensive for wines of this quality. While modern wines will last...vintage port is accessible at a younger age these days. Croft 2016 was already showing well."

Two important points--Port is underpriced at the upper level. And much more accessible lately.

My favourite thing about the (rather disappointing) new Frankenstein film is how the doctor looks increasingly like Marty Feldman once he's created the monster. Clearly a nod to Mel Brooks' infinitely superior version of the story.
