This reminds me of a time a little over 10 years ago when something called the "Dragon Box", effectively a run-of-the-mill Android device preloaded with Kodi, was getting popular. I couldn't fathom how someone would buy one at the asking price. Honestly I'm less surprised this time around.

One of the funniest / stupidest parts of the Influencer Administration is that he’s also constantly screwing with broadcast TV policy as though everyone isn’t actually watching YouTube all day

Since his appointment, RFK Jr. has pursued a brutal vision of American health that several experts liken to a sort of eugenics. Kennedy has made it clear that certain deaths are acceptable or even preferable to a world where every child is vaccinated.

Today, @lujan.senate.gov and I pressed Chairman Carr on the need for an independent FCC.

Carr said he doesn’t think the FCC is an independent agency and has now immediately removed any reference of the FCC being an β€œindependent agency” from it's website. This is all a big scam.

A rare GM EV1 saved from the crusher is going to be driveable again The General Motors EV1 has a vital place in electric vehicle history. It mainly served to show two things: * Show a viable path for battery-electric vehicles back in the 1990s. * Some forces are clearly at play to suppress electric cars. GM only leased the EV1, never sold any, and prevented almost anyone from keeping them when it killed the vehicle program. The automaker ended up crushing the vast majority of them. While a few empty shells exist in museums, they are strictly prohibited from ever driving again. But a new project has surfaced involving what appears to be the only legally owned EV1 in private hands, and the new owner plans to put it back on the road with a modern battery pack. A YouTube channel called Electrek Garage (no relation to us, though we like the name) posted a fascinating video detailing the acquisition and restoration plan for this unicorn of an EV. more…

We're over four years into Windows 11 and largely the only noteworthy updates are the additions of removed Windows 10 features. Maybe if Microsoft wasn't so stubbornly trying to turn it into an "agentic OS" this wouldn't be a problem. I haven't heard a single person ask for that in conversation.

This is a $40 streaming stick that strictly runs web apps, performs worse than cheaper options, and lacks key apps and features. I feel bad for anyone who buys this over basically anything else. The regular Stick 4K routinely sells for less on sale, and Walmart's $20 Onn 4K runs circles around this.

Well, today is the (official) end of the road for Windows 10. It's had its fair share of flaws, but it really became a rock-solid OS as time went on, only for Windows 11 to walk back on that stability. I can't ever forget how much of a lifeline it was to older PC hardware. You won't see that again.

This is easily the worst thing that could happen to Android as a platform. It's fine to tighten security, but not to the extent where it eliminates the main benefit for enthusiasts, as it's been since the beginning. It's also practically a surveillance tactic when you factor in the identification.
