Fireworks in Downtown Beloit seen from State and Grand before the Lighted Holiday Parade begins.
The 37th Grand Lighted Holiday Parade started with a fireworks light show from the folks at ABC Supply Stadium in downtown Beloit.

It's all fun, until it's not. One life is all you get, then you die. There is no "better place"—no "eternal soul"—no "heaven"—no past, no future—nothing but now. This makes all life precious, irreplaceable, and unique to its time. Live the life you want the future to bring.
I wrote this many years ago after viewing comments on social media lamenting another victim of violence. They were the usual mix of "hope and prayers" and more than one mentioned they'd "see you again on the other side" or how they were now "in a better place" and so on. You know the routine.

The eagles on 17 are staying at the nest. Let's hope they have better success this year than last. (They don't seem to be particularly good housekeepers compared to the Decorah eagles.)

Eagle at 17 - in the trees by the pond just north of 10th and Olympian. I didn't see the mate on the nest, which means there's no egg yet, though it could be too low in the nest for me to see from the sidewalk on Hackett.

This was not what I expected to share as the first photos from my new camera system that arrived Saturday.
New and Old Camera Practice Sunday at Nature at the Confluence in South Beloit.
We met a couple from Harvard looking for eagles, and showed them around the train blocking access to the "Birding Trail" and Eagle Point. We didn't see any bald eagles until we got to The Rock Bar & Grill later.
