VERY FAMOUS POEM THE ILIAD by Homer

I'm enjoying these short descriptions in the NYT 100 notable books list:

on Tremor, a novel by Teju Cole – On the Seawall

First thing I've written in a little while: I had the pleasure of reviewing Teju Cole's brilliant new novel, his best yet imo, for On the Seawall. Please check it out! www.ronslate.com/on-tremor-a-...

I read the Fitzgerald Iliad and the Fagles Odyssey back in college. I loved it--it was my first semester of being an English major. But the side-by-side with the new translation was the push I needed to pick up the Wilson

So excited for this. Great review. The comparisons between Wilson’s translation and fitzgerald/fagles are super helpful

my 5yo trying her hand at "would you rather" with predictably terrifying results:

"would you rather be eaten by a lion or a tiger?"

I loved this piece. Another thing I miss from the DVD queue days is the built-in time lag. Either you watch whatever weird movie showed up in your mailbox or you wait a week to get something new. I rarely bailed on movies back then

My 5yo’s latest ploy is using her manners to reject directions

Franzen, Grisham and Other Prominent Authors Sue OpenAI The suit, filed with the Authors Guild, accuses the A.I. company of infringing on authors’ copyrights, claiming it used their books to train its ChatGPT chatbot.

This is good but also I kind of feel bad for the poor chatbot that was forced to read all of franzen’s β€œFreedom”

The game's restrained sound design was such a big part of this same feeling for me too. The game is so quiet. A lot of the time it's just the sound of Link's footfalls

How Elon Musk Went from Superhero to Supervillain Walter Isaacson’s new biography depicts a man who wields more power than almost any other person on the planet but seems estranged from humanity itself.

The lepore essay on the new musk biography is so good
