NEW paper published this week in @thelancet.com from NDCN's Critical Care Group

This new study has developed a machine learning-based prediction model and a simplified graphical tool to estimate the risk NOAF in patients admitted to an intensive care unit (ICU).

Quite. If your stroke risk in AF is 10% per year, that’s… 0.03% per day-ish

Until we know more, sensible to consider anticoagulation only after resolution of acute illness imo

Of course thromboembolic rates may be higher in critical illness but we don’t really know that yet

Treatment strategies for new onset atrial fibrillation in patients treated on an intensive care unit: a systematic scoping review - Critical Care Background New-onset atrial fibrillation (NOAF) in patients treated on an intensive care unit (ICU) is common and associated with significant morbidity and mortality. We undertook a systematic scoping...

That was the (not strongly-evidenced) impression we came to after our scoping review

I like to create the illusion of intelligence by varying my vasopressin threshold based on heart rate, presence of dysrhythmias, raised IAP. Usually when NA around 0.25 to 0.4mcg/kg/min
Steroids around 0.4

This is incredible.
I just fed it my thesis and then listened to two people discussing it quite insightfully.

The only way you can tell it isn’t real is because they seemed genuinely interested…
