I just want to put this here. I have spent more than 60yrs bucking the system. But...I've spent about 25 of those in military and federal, state, and local govt service. So, don't get it twisted. I'm a patriot. But I'm speaking out in ways that will probably attract the attention of bigots in govt.

Once the ICE raids started receiving national media attention, my body responded viscerally. I instinctively shed dozens of online friendships, even wrote some farewells. My life is better w/out feeling doubts about where some people stand. Because there's little else to do now but throw hands.

Since what ICE is doing is not legal, Governors & mayors should protect the public thru some confrontations, even before cases of due process questions and habeas corpus ultimately go to civil courts. Isn't State law enforcement bound constitutionally to protect people?

Any local (city or county) agreements with ICE under 267g DHS that are currently underway might cause Department officials to face a crisis of conscience over loyalty to a State Constitution as all officials, local, county or state) are sworn to.

I think Chicago may become the legal Nexus for the real question of whether a State's (including County) Law Enforcement leadership will abide by a Governor's edict defying the very shaky authority of indiscriminate warrantless apprehensions.

I think most of the cases that reach the federal level would decide in favor of States Rights, and State laws would be upheld. If not, we're going to truly be just like the Soviets or Chinese communist states.

I have been wrong so far. But I still think this won't happen in Chicago proper. And if the Governor of Illinois orders State police to protect its citizens in the face of ICE, it means arresting a federal officer. And the crowds in Chicago could make that easier.

I helped a motorist stranded at an intersection today. It was a mom with a child in back. I walked up to help. I could see she was Russian. We spoke Russian. Her husband was on the way she said. She wanted to move the car to a parking space. I pushed. She steered. The kid cheered. Life is good.
