I just finished rereading Reticence by @gailcarriger.bsky.social . It’s at least as much fun on the second pass.

I'm not teaching my grad course 'Civil Resistance: How It Works' this semester. But here is an abridged version of the course schedule, readings, and films I used the last time I taught it (in 2022). Just in case it's useful. drive.google.com/file/d/14RRJ...

23.01.2025 08:34 — 👍 0 🔁 0 💬 0 📌 0The Democrats should use this as a chance to radicalize regular people in favor of, uh, the idea of a functional government. Every time that an important but unnoticed federal department fails because Trump fired everyone they should make a big deal out of it.

I’m so glad you were able to vote. I couldn’t: I was homeless at the time and my shelter adamantly refused to let me use their address for anything. Salvation Army saved my butt in a lot of ways, but that was one thing they could have handled better.

Text from the book: The values we care about the deepest, and the movements within society that support those values, command our love. When those things that we care about so deeply become endangered, we become enraged. And what a healthy thing that is! Without it, we would never stand up and speak out for what we believe.
what would mister rogers do?
get enraged
seriously. his word choice. he gave us permission, said it's healthy:
