In your brain vs the attention economy algorithm, the only winning move is not to play.

Using adblock to totally filter out the URL made things easier. If I want to check reddit (for example to find an answer to a question), there is this hurdle where I have to disable adblock to get to it.

I removed reddit about 10 years ago - I can't even remember what the scandal was at the time. Deleted account, etc. Since making that choice, I haven't missed it once. Similarly, I've had to delete Instagram, etc. I'm way to susceptible to doom-scrolling and losing hours at a time to it.

I feel like a hear a lot of ads which, while not noticeably spoken by AI, are absolutely written by AI.

Mother-in-law did a little European road trip, so we got to directly compare Belgian and Swiss chocolates. Verdict is in and unanimous: Belgium should stick to waffles!

In my opinion, it's one of the few games where it does way too much, but ends up being worth it.

I was lucky enough to play it a load of times in quick succession to mentally lock in the mechanisms.

My kid just tried hummus. "It tastes like your smell."

They have a choice of 2 cards each turn, and Alexander has to travel to the closest matching symbol on the board, which otherwise has no pieces on it. Generally, they try to find a way to subdivide another player's territory in this way.

We played Beyond the Sun, which is a favourite of mine. This was a really weird session, with loads of automation and no blue technologies. By the end of the game, which took a fair bit longer than normal, all players had maxed out their automation tracks.

Alexandros is a fantastic old-school game. All players decide how Alexander moves around the region, dividing it into regions as he moves. And then we fight for control of those regions.

One of the players asked to buy my copy when we finished!

A three player game of The King is Dead

I taught The King is Dead to two new players yesterday. Fun all around - the French invaded!

I've so much respect for how much this game does with so few rules.

My older brother had this one! I think we built it once and then smashed it up and turned it into spaceships.

1) The system that tracks illegal activity (which is most stuff players do) causes these police drones to spawn and get more powerful. There is a viable way to play where you ignore missions, but spec your character to be a drone fighter!

Saw an amazing little exhibition at the new Petri archaeology museum in Berlin - "degenerate" art confiscated by the Nazis and excavated in 2010 during construction of a metro station.

Kids these days with their 6-7s and Italian brain-rot. They're wasting their youth!
