If someone needs a book on this, that links it to the nature of capitalism, class, the role that knowledge and technology play in history, and what power has to do with that... we've got you covered, of course

The Biggest Lie in AI
YouTube video by Internet of Bugs The Biggest Lie in AI

I've come to pretty much the same conclusion. @internetofbugs.com articulates it expertly here.

We hear it repeated over & over, but it's become very clear scaling isn't the answer.

But it's the only answer Big Tech has right now. So scale they must!

The maintenance cost of AI implementations is exponentially greater than standard implementations.

This has ALWAYS been the case with generated code. Very fast implementations, but impossible to maintain.

I made an anti-AI post on LinkedIn and the people angry or defensive all have Visionary or Founder as their listed role, and everyone agreeing with me has a real job. Amazing how that is.

Good thread about how ChatGPT is *not* a useful disability aid, which dovetails nicely with the reporting about how AI lowers productivity when it's forced into people's workflows

Israel’s starvation campaign ravages Gaza The cries of hungry children echo through tent camps in Gaza City, with over 50 Palestinians in the enclave starving to death in the past five days alone.

"He was everything to me and my wife."

"I hope no child on this earth dies the way my son did."

"In Gaza today, the cries of hungry children have become an ordinary part of daily life."

How big tech is force-feeding us AI Plus, OpenAI's absurd listening tour, top AI scientists say AI is evolving beyond our control, Facebook is putting data centers in tents, and the AI bubble question — answered?

Big tech promotes the story that since ChatGPT burst onto the scene, AI has been so popular it's rushed to meet the demand. The reality is different. A study by design scholars shows tech co's have had to push AI on its users with a variety of intrusive tactics.

Vinay Prasad & Marty Makary frequently attacked studies proving COVID-19's harms as "Covidian" and the researchers as "brain damaged." Now in charge at the Food & Drug Administration, their new favorite spambot is imagining studies out of whole cloth. This is because genAI is sycophantic by design.

Also, don't use AI even if you're joking around. The amount of energy and water used to feed the BSing plagiarism machine is astronomical.

Backers are asked to believe that OpenAI is the most responsible guardian of The Dangerous Majick, while also understanding that the urgency of Al's arms race frees it from all obligation to act responsibly. Burning cash is foundational to its business. There's no time to sandbox new products or abide by laws when liquidity is only ever measured in months. The looming threat of insolvency is what propels OpenAI forward.
Does value-for-money get a look in? We know very little about OpenAI's day-to-day operating costs, but we've learned a little more about the day-to-day operating costs of the CEO.

Maybe it's useful to know that Altman uses a knife that's showy but incohesive and wrong for the job; he wastes huge amounts of money on olive oil that he uses recklessly; and he has an automated coffee machine that claims to save
labour while doing the exact opposite because it can't be trusted. His kitchen is a catalogue of inefficiency, incomprehension, and waste. If that's any indication of how he runs the company, insolvency cannot be considered too unrealistic a threat.

This may genuinely be one of the most devastating things I've seen about a tech CEO in the mainstream media. Amazing.

That's the thing: Dems were never going to try to stop it. They helped to usher it in. Everything Trump is doing is only possible because of the tools they provided to him. By supporting Harris, all you did was co-sign a genocide and show them that you have no red lines.

It's amazing that privileged people who constantly invoke the trolley problem to rationalize their electoral decisions are shocked to learn that the people they've continually sacrificed to the trolley for more than half a century would rather burn down the entire system than let this continue.
