In one year, called 2025 by some, with brand new games, and games long past, a wind rose in Kritigri's Wordpress. The wind was not the beginning. There are neither beginnings nor endings to the turning of the Wheel of Time. But it was a beginning. The wind swept down from the myriad Game of the Year discussions happening on boards near and far, whipping through a back catalogue of posts penned by Kritigri's own hand from years prior. It rushed past the year 2025, and onwards to years yet to come, but we shall remain here, in the present. We shall remain in 2025, where the rampant corporatisation of the industry has led to many gamers turning to indie titles to flee from storms of price hikes, layoffs, overpromised features and underdelivered products. Away from the sea of gluttonous cosmetic advertisements, yearly DLC requirements and steadily worsening subscription offerings, there lies a haven of games created by artists; games by folks who create not to meet quarterly earnings goals or to appease shareholders, but to create entertainment, and beauty, and fun. They are to who we turn this year, now more than ever, as the industry continues on a downward trajectory, hell-bent on burning goodwill to fuel their unsustainable monetary ambitions.
