let's commit to wearing our clothes and makeup more, if we aren't already, in the new year. everything outside of our control is about to be so ugly. we might as well be fly AF while we can.

Black women, in the middle of the night:

I cannot sleep. I’ve been fidgeting with the idea of going back to school in the fall for my Master’s. I’m just not sure if I want another tech degree. Like I’m thinking of getting something else. I just don’t know what.

It can play out like movie. Same for music, especially jazz and classical.

instead of asking a grown woman to not wear makeup on your second date, why not just pursue women who don't wear makeup?

A drawing depicting octopus mating. The male octopus is depicted from the front. One of it's arms, the hectocotylus, is extended and reaching into the female's mantle cavity. The female octopus is depicting from the side. Both octopuses are staring towards you, with a rather awkard look, like you just walked in on something. There is text above the drawing stating "Copulation in octopuses involves the male inserting his hectocotylus arm (3rd right) into the cavity of the female, along which the spermatophores are conveyed."

This classic illustration of octopus mating makes me feel so awkward.

They're embarassed, I'm embarassed for walking in on them, we both now have second hand embarrassment. If only octopuses invented socks or door knobs.

Suggestion: Search up Energy Share programs that help people stay warm in the winter. Katherine and I are making a $10,000 donation to Energy Share of Montana today.

It’s not coincidental that every time one of these sites starts taking off they begin loosening their own rules. They want the harassers here to a degree because their conduct gets people angry and posting. The more the metrics go up the more people with money start taking notice.

Moderation only has limits when engagement starts looking like dollar signs.

When social media sites tell you moderation has limits I want you to know there was a time when you could only find the worst people on obscure forums created for being offensive because everywhere else moderated them into those corners.

That a dude with a couple cameras and a plate of appetizers can make something worth $82.5 million and a media company looks at that and goes "couldn't we make even more money if we had AI do it?" tells you exactly how stupid these people are

lastly: it’s important to understand that tho this complaint by the NLRB’s regional office is a huge step, it’s part of a larger process

the board’s complaint still needs to be litigated before a judgeβ€”and the change in presidential administrations could ultimately have a big impact on the outcome

12.12.2024 04:34 β€” πŸ‘ 23    πŸ” 3    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

also worth noting that historically all of these aggro provisions are loosened for production favorites. if production likes you, they’ll approve your podcast interviews and media appearances, or let you get away with quitting a show mid season

if they don’t, you can end up paying huge penalties

the NLRB also struck down contract clauses that threatened case members with a $50k penalty if they leave the show during filming

it’s worth remembering that most unscripted actors are paid little to nothing for their time on the show (ex: Bachelor players get $0 & have to take weeks off work)

this will have a big effect on the reality tv industry. one of the provisions the NLRB deemed unlawful is a common noncompete clause also seen in Bachelor contracts barring the cast from participating in *anything* (eg, podcasts, basic interviews, other productions) for a YEAR after the show airs

Labor Board Classifies β€˜Love Is Blind’ Contestants as Employees With its complaint against the Netflix hit, the National Labor Relations Board opened the door to unionization.

*huge* news for the reality tv industry: the NLRB just ruled that Love Is Blind cast members are employeesβ€”not contractorsβ€”which means they have a right to unionize, and can be afforded other protections www.nytimes.com/2024/12/11/a...

No joke: The ill-considered, lightning fast adoption of these faulty technologies across different sectors of society is nothing less than a mass cult conversion. It's the Kool Aid at scale, and we're treating it like a nice calming cup of green tea

We had this exact scenario.
A colleague and I were tasked with helping a programmer design a program to assist us with our work.
On day 1 we said it won't work.
Several months (and millions) later, the project was shelved
Apparently it wouldn't work.

There’s often a huge gulf between the people buying the software and the end user. It’s disturbing how easily bad tech will rollout and those responsible won’t even notice for months, dismissing complaints as people not willing to change.

I genuinely believe a lot of companies who have been sold on this AI shit are going to realise they've been duped soon enough. But someone sold them on the idea they'd be left behind if they didn't do this NOW.
