Those cruel laws destroyed lives.

People hid who they were, lost jobs, families, friends and too many never recovered.

Expungement and redress can’t undo the pain, but they do mark a step toward healing and truth.

This reform was driven by the LGBTIQA+ community - especially Rodney Croome and Equality Tasmania - and championed in Parliament by the Greens.

It’s a nation-leading acknowledgment that simply being yourself should never have been a crime.

Tasmania once criminalised people for being gay or for cross-dressing.

Yesterday Tasmania's Parliament finally passed laws to erase those convictions and offer redress for the harm caused.

This is justice decades overdue.

The Greens will use this inquiry to make the case for fairness: that someone who goes to work every day to earn a living should not be subsidising tax breaks for wealthy property speculators.

This inquiry will shine a light on how the CGT discount has driven inequality, funnelled money away from productive investment, and turned homes into financial assets instead of places of shelter and community.

The CGT discount is the most unfair and unequal tax break in the entire Commonwealth tax code, supercharging house prices and locking first homebuyers out.

The Greens have secured a Senate inquiry into the capital gains tax (CGT) discount. We will use this to expose one of the most regressive tax breaks in Australia, where 50% of the benefit goes to the top 1% wealthiest Australians.

Gender-affirming care saves lives. It helps trans and gender diverse people thrive, live with dignity, and be themselves. It should never be used as a political football.

The LNP must immediately reinstate gender-affirming care, and stop playing politics with people’s lives.

The LNP's actions here are truly disgusting, placing young trans folk in the middle of a culture war of their own creation, using them as a public punching bag, and knowingly risking young lives in the process.

This decision is hateful and cruel, and goes against everything we know about gender-affirming care and its ability to save lives.

In an abhorrent turn of events, Queensland's Health Minister - Tim Nicholls - has reinstated a ban on gender-affirming care for young trans folk, just hours after the Supreme Court ruled the LNP’s first ban unlawful.

The LNP can dress up their bigotry however they want. It’s all bullshit. They’re deliberately endangering trans kids to feed the culture-war machine.

They should reinstate gender-affirming care immediately. Stop the cruelty and stop playing politics with people’s lives.

A Queensland mum just had to take the LNP Government to court so her trans kid could get healthcare. And she won! The Supreme Court ruled the LNP’s ban on gender-affirming care was unlawful.

This forest must be protected not destroyed, and we need to end native forest logging right around Australia.

Forestry Tasmania have made it clear that they intend to log this majestic forest, and the interest from Tasmania Police means they may move in any time to facilitate its destruction.

Police and Forestry Tasmania have scoped out the Styx Forest Sentinel Camp that I visited this week.

Labor promised zero extinctions. But while the koala edges closer to vanishing, their reforms to our nature laws are too weak and too slow. We need strong national laws, enforced by an independent watchdog, that actually keep trees standing.

Even worse, 98% of destroyed koala habitat is being bulldozed without assessment. Agriculture and native forest logging are driving the devastation, while Labor refuses to close the loopholes that allow it.

Since 2011, almost 38,000 hectares of koala habitat has been signed off for destruction under Australia’s so-called “nature protection” laws. That is an area larger than two Royal National Parks.

The koala is officially listed as endangered. The government itself admits habitat destruction is the “major and increasing threat” to their survival. Yet Labor keeps waving projects through that tear down their forests.

2025 has already been the worst on record for the destruction of koala habitat. Almost 4,000 hectares – the size of four Sydney Airports – has been approved to be bulldozed this year.

Tibet’s status remains unresolved and it’s time for the Australian government to clearly declare this and support self determination for the Tibetan people.

They bravely shared profound stories of personal and cultural loss.

We must remember those who who remain in Tibet under authoritarian rule, without freedom of movement and religion, and we must reject the legitimacy of any Dalai Lama appointed by the Chinese government.
