The Last Bobcat Where Nature Meets Cultureβ€”Plus Wildfire, Dogs, Environmental News, and Writing with a Southern Rockies Perspective.

One of my volunteer gigs is hauling (sometimes capturing) injured raptors for the Raptor Center, collecting orphan fawns & other critters for rehabbers, and sometimes releasing them in the wild. Yesterday's run was especially bittersweet: www.southernrockiesnatureblog.com/2025/11/the-...

Is this another example of the journalistic stance that everything fun is somehow racist?

I think the first Holmes story that I read was "The Red-Headed League." Did they televise that one? Not as scary as "The Hound."

True, the mindful part. And I see that (on that site) my daily-driver Pelikan is now $175 or so.

OK. I did not realize that British troops were involved in that area, thought it was purely Italian. But I see now that they were sent in even before the Italian collapse at Caporetto. Interesting.

In Italy? They were part of the Allies in World War One.

The English writer Michael Harrison started that "vaginal application" story in the 1960s. It was purely his fantasy, as far as I can tell.

If a park ranger at Yellowstone tells you not to step off the boardwalk at the geyser basin, is s/he "acting like a policeman" or keeping you from being cooked alive? I taught 100-400 level writing classes for years -- I get the "find your voice" rhetoric -- but you have to do the work yourself.

It's funny how Amanita muscaria has gone from scary to therapeutic. I saw the needle start to swing in the late 1990s, and now if you're not using it, are you really fungi-maxing? Links to upcoming online conference below & in comment.https://www.facebook.com/amanitaonlinecongress

Honest, I never worried about that, leaving rebuttal to scholars such as Mark Williams. (This book is about Ireland, but he knows his Old Welsh.) www.jstor.org/stable/j.ctv...

But back when I thought I was a poet and sought a spiritual path with room for such things in it, Ch. 1 made me a Pagan.

What does this do to enrollment in the concrete-industry management program? Will there be enough majors to keep it alive?

A Heathen Marine Vet Overcomes PTSD with Psilocybin A recent episode of the Dale Stark Show, hosted by a former A-10 β€œWarthog” pilot turned regenerative cattle rancher and podcaster, focuses on the work of Clay Martin in using psilocybin…

A former Marine scout-sniper and now Heathen priest discusses his "ministry" of using psilocybin to treat vets with PTSD w/ insights on how US Religious freedom has evolved. There's a lot of getting-to-know-you chat up front; the second half is more interesting.

One issue is that Wiccan circles do not scale-up well. Get more than 20 people, and the energy tends to be "floppy." So it's necessary to change gears, focus more on processions and theatrical offerings, maybe.
