Thousands?? 💀 Microsoft updates in general just cause so much stuff to break. I have had to troubleshoot mysterious printer issues on more than one occasion that could be traced directly back to Microsoft. Though, thankfully never at that scale. Thank you for your service 😭

Definitely a press is not the move, but I’ve hand printed into a sketchbook plenty of times. You want something that is equipped for multimedia. You can also always print onto something to paste into a sketchbook!

I don’t know how well fountain pen ink would work on wood. I suspect you’d have trouble with creating crisp lines, depending on how it’s treated. Lino might be better, but you might still run into trouble with the lines staying on until you have it all carved. I think a dip pen would be better.

Anyway, that old factoid of whales actually being mammals and not fish is only half true depending on where we draw the taxonomical line!

He did suggest the continued use of the grouping, but acknowledged that, under our current organization system, all the fish can’t be cleanly organized. Some folks have actually suggested chopping up the branches of the paraphyletic clade into their own groups.

So the real answer is that fish are a paraphyletic clade—including most, but not all branches of a node in the tree of life. You can look into it more by searching Stephen Jay Gould‘s quote “There is no such thing as a fish” as he is the biologist who popularized the idea.

It really depends what you mean by that question… If you wanted to create a group that included the most everything we consider fish from their most recent common ancestor, you’d have to include humans and all other chordates. If you wanted to exclude chordates, you’d have to exclude a lot of fish.

I‘m obsessed with Riso printmaking! This really feels like its own artform. None of the Riso printers near me have drum colors I’m interested in, so I haven’t had a chance to really dig in, but I am familiar with how to prep a print for Riso! Gorgeous stuff.

This can help protect them from UV, scratches, and splashes. We want to make it so folks dont have to throw it away immediately! My laminate of choice is Oracal Oraguard 210 matte (ordered from creativecraftvinyl) It offers protection against everything mentioned and is nice to work with! (3/3)

You can get around this somewhat by printing on glossy vinyl for better color reproduction and then using a matte laminate. The glossy vinyl is more annoying to laminate and you will have to incorporate more lamination errors into your cost margins. I do always recommend laminating stickers. (2/3)

Red River Paper is my go to for prints. Their papers are very nice, come in sample packs, and have their own color profiles—something crucial for making good quality prints. I personally like Aurora art white 250 for matte + glossy I like the 68 lb UltraPro Satin 4.0 But I’d get the sampler! (1/3)

That trauma is real, I’m so sorry. We once brought in a technician from the company who made one of our wide-format specialty printers when we had an issue and he was there for a week trying to figure it out 😭 Printers have ghosts living in them, and they make it our problem.

We used to do that for our converted machines we used to print screen printing positives. But the yellow in particular is so annoying bc it’s literally only needed to make your prints traceable with an invisible identification watermark. If they didnt want to track you, it wouldnt matter 🥹

Depends on the exact printer! What I typically suggest is getting refillable tanks that fit in the cartridge slot that you can buy 3rd party ink for, as opposed to just buying cartridges. My preferred ink place is precisioncolors, but you’d have to see if they have your model!

Unless you need a really expanded gamut of colors or other specific needs, though, I typically recommend the EcoTanks just so that you don't have to deal with the cartridges. (3/3)

—so you don't get scammed by printer cartridges, which are rip offs with very little ink in the space provided. I have a refillable printer and personally still use third party ink so that I can use pigment ink, which has better lightfastness than the dye based ink the ET-8550 comes with. (2/3)
