I enjoy recognizing behaviors supposedly typical of bees in some of their ancestors, the wasps. A digger or thread-waisted wasp, Ammophila heydeni (Sphecidae), still sleeping shortly after dawn clinging to a twig with its mandibles, as commonly done by many solitary bees sporting strong mandibles.

I really can't recommend familiarizing yourself with the things that live and grow around you enough. It's immediately grounding to be able to recognize individual plants/bugs/animals and have some understanding of their relationship to each other and to you. It makes day-to-day life feel richer
