Circular metal sieve, resting on a bucket, holding large chunks of wood, sticks and stems sifted from potting soil. Within the bucket is the sifted soil that will be used for more milk jug seed sowing.

This will be added to my kitchen scraps bin and allowed to compost in my, currently unfilled, raised beds.

πŸ€¦β€β™€οΈ And I wonder why my winter sown seed last year had less than great seed to soil contact = germination.

Sifting this year. 🌱 #nativeplants #gardening #wintersowing

Your home just melts into the surroundings. What a great setting, always fun to see the life on the land you steward. Enjoy your weekend and don’t work too hard!

I agree. Simplicity shines. The real treasure is inside.

It's huge when municipalities can get out of their own way and recognize good things. Maybe they can promote it 'An unexpected garden. Carefree and whimsical, just like in nature. Come meet its inhabitants up close.' Your neighbors won't be able to ignore how many want to see your glorious mess!

I throw out nuts, apples/bananas/grapes that have gone by, some veggies. All toward nightfall so it stands a chance being there for them. Gave up dedicated bird feeders a few years ago for various reasons. Of course, when my dirt pile thaws, maybe they will find some easily accessible worms!

Ohhhhh, my ❀️. We haven’t seen our two this year coming to the patio under cover of darkness. Though, maybe they are confused. Half of the patio has a covered pile of garden soil from some raised beds we are rearranging, a frozen half bale of straw and the curved metal arch for the cucs. Miss them.

Now that is some color saturation! I love blues in nature. Stunning!

Noooooooo! β€˜Peeking for growth’ should not be part of the gardening vocabulary in northern Illinois … in FEBRUARY. We need old school winter for those 60 and 90 day strat plants.

I just want to see cold temps, snow coverage and condensation in the jugs 😀.

Geez. I almost expected to see a huge wide-body coming in low for a landing. Disturbing.

Ahhh, but the Universe knows. I have bought from them numerous times and their catalog is a great quick and easy reference.

Ran out of milk jugs for winter sowing (up to 40 now) so really need to restrain myself. Although I have been known to, at times, lack discipline 😏.

Nice article. Trying to establish a dry, shaded native planted woodland, north side. Deer also pass through. Winter sowing native asters and columbine which deer dislike and can take dryness. Leaving older junk trees as lookouts for hawks, more bats, etc. I have big plans for that spot!

What does it taste like? I have given up my β€˜rust remover’ classic coke for flavored black tea, Lady Grey and Earl Grey, and tea powders with adaptogens, herbs, probiotics, and all that. Is green tea stronger, grassy or πŸ€”. Still trying to get used to the black tea so I add some milk, honey or both.

Or maybe make the dish smaller so she can’t reach the food? Looks like at the end of the 1st video she opened her mouth to curse πŸ˜€

Can you poke a few holes in the foam toward the edges, all around the foam, and secure it to the wires letting the foam fold over the wire a bit? Would that potentially cause harm? So hard to provide for some without harm to any.

Good grief. Was the document important enough to almost give you a heart attack? Why necessary to deliver it personally? Just ring the damn doorbell and leave it or tape a notice! It’s not like you were expecting a pizza! Sounds like the company needs to know to train their employees better.

For some reason, all I get is a full screen picture of a tree, birdbath and plantings. No banner, no link or anything. I then typed your website page and followed calendar events to the secure form link at the bottom.

Just an FYI your link didn’t work for me. Signed up, thanks.

Lovely sentiment put out into the universe…thank you and back atcha!

I think I’m starting seed toward end of March/early April. Growth last year got out of hand to manage and it was nowhere near being able to transplant. If they go out a tad shorter they’ll recover in no time.

Passed on it for years because Prairie Moon indicates it’s a short-lived perennial. Lovely earlier flower and I can use that feature and its height in part shade/sun (shadow of a maple) and sandy hillside, where grasses have diminished over time. What is short-lived and does it continuously reseed?

Yeah, too much for this human for sure! But, your winter sown milk jugs are all snug and cold stratifying away!

Just lovely! Winter sowed a good bit of Purple Coneflower. Now I am on the hunt for Sea Holly! I have Rattlesnake Master with the Coneflowers in a front bed but love the blue of the Sea Holly!

I love these but not sure I can articulate why. Seemingly random but purposeful brush strokes, focused color and definition within, happy squiggles … hodgepodge, but not. Color play is nice, too. Eye catching all the way around.
