What if Walmart turned its parking lots into solar farms? We asked experts to help crunch the numbers.

South Korea has mandated solar canopies for large parking lots. It's a no-brainer. We could offer firms incentives to do it here, or they could just friggin' do it! (H/t @assaadrazzouk.bsky.social)

The USDA sent an email to grocery stores telling them they are prohibited from offering special discounts to customers affected by the SNAP funding lapse.
I'm aware of at least 2 stores that had offered struggling customers a discount, then withdrew it after receiving this email

Here are my three truths about climate:
1. We fail if we don’t end free-to-pollute fossil fuel model. Period. Game over.
2. A crash looms, prefigured by collapse in home insurance/mortgage markets.
3. There are true villains in the story, and we have to tell it that way.

Even in major roles he's usually supporting another character...not leading the story. He gets a chance to run with this role and he delivers.

The β€œDebate Me Bro” Grift: How Trolls Weaponized The Marketplace Of Ideas Among the attempts to create hagiographic eulogies of Charlie Kirk, I’ve seen more than a few people suggest that Kirk should be respected for being willing to talk to β€œthose who disagree with him”…

Anyway, yet another reminder that "debate me bros" were always full of shit, and anyone who claims that they were actually about free speech or real discussion over ideas is lying or gullible.

Our Long National Nightmare by Tom Tomorrow Relive the trauma of the last five years through the cartoons of Herblock Award winner and Pulitzer nominee Tom Tomorrow.

It's all hands on deck. I am shamelessly asking, one more time, for reposts and signal boost as this bird glides toward a landing in a few hours. It's gonna be a beautiful book, and there aren't going to be very many available afterwards!

I see no inconsistency, just an expanded comment with additional thoughts. I am puzzled by two things. 1) The junior debate team "gotcha" quality of the comments. 2) The energy expended on minutia of broadcast regulatory policy from 40+ years ago. Thanks for the comments. I'm out of this thread.

It was under advice from broadcast attorneys. Rehashing 40 year old radio content policies and execution of same by dozens of different radio companies seems like a strange topic when there are far more important issues in today's politics and media. You folks can talk amongst yourselves.

All conservative shows on one station became legal. No requirement for balance. No oops involved.

29.10.2025 16:22 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 0

Per my broadcast attorney conversations, a contrasting show would be easier to demonstrate a good faith effort at balance to the FCC. All of this evolution of content and response to regulation was highly dispersed over many small radio companies and a few years. So different decisions.

respectfully. It's not something I do, particularly about topics that are now long in the past. I will occasionally continue to comment about media and messaging, based on my 40 years of media experience. I look forward to your comments in hopes they will be less confrontational.

Well, our memories of this history are different. Having worked on radio license renewals with our broadcast attorneys at several stations from 1970-1986, I can only share my recollection of what I was told. Based on your tone, you seem to want to engage me in a social media kerfuffle. I decline,

I don't endorse corporations ever. I have serious issues re: covid,, so I get my groceries delivered and mask when I go out. Kroger has a monthly fee that covers all deliveries over $35. If Kroger delivers, there's no charge. If they use instacart, there's a fee. This has worked for me.

29.10.2025 15:24 β€” πŸ‘ 1    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 1    πŸ“Œ 0

When their license renewal came before the FCC (every 3 years), they needed to demonstrate that. So broadcasting RL was fine, stations just had a separate show that was more liberal, covering their bases. Removing the FD facilitated the transition to all conservative talk radio.

29.10.2025 15:19 β€” πŸ‘ 0    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 1

Well, since I was an executive managing radio stations at the time, I have a somewhat different perspective. What RL said was always legal. Under the original rules, the license holders of a radio station were obliged to provide fair and equal coverage of controversial issues. (Not equal time).

I continue to be kinda flabbergasted by the fact that the dynamic of this shutdown has been Democrats begging Republicans to let them help them not shoot themselves in the foot and the GOPs response has been "oh you hate that? Well we're gonna shoot ourselves in the dick too just to spite you."
