i think jesse jackson was one of the most important american political figures of the post-war era and i think that his 1984 and 1988 campaigns for the democratic nomination still have a great deal to teach about forging a path to a more egalitarian world. RIP.

1. I would vote for anyone who could win a Democratic primary in 2028
2. I will vote for the most credible left candidate in the primary
3. The two-party system is bad and we should replace it with proportional representation
4. The presidency is bad and we should replace it with a Prime Minister

Medicare for All would save $450B a year.

Every dollar spent on food stamps generates $1.50-$1.80 in economic activity.

Each dollar going to low-wage workers adds $1.20 to the economy overall.

Itโ€™s not about what this country can or canโ€™t afford.

Itโ€™s about priorities.

Trump suggests federal control of elections in โ€˜some areasโ€™ In a lengthy interview with NBC, the president said he will accept the results of the midterm elections if they are โ€œhonest.โ€

This is an authoritarian power grab, full stop.

Nationalizing elections would put the executive branch in control of who votes and how. Thatโ€™s how dictators rig outcomes, crush opposition, and assault democratic self-government.

This should alarm everyone: www.ms.now/news/trump-s...

Not disagreeing with you here, but it would probably also help if the house wasnโ€™t filled with a bunch of do-nothing clowns as well. Politics aside, too many are there purely to enrich themselves and work on the pitch for their next campaign.

Amazon just announced another round of 16,000 layoffs, months after it laid off 14,000 workers.

Reminder that Amazon CEO Andy Jassy raked in over $40M in 2024.

And Amazon is spending at least $75 million producing and promoting the Melania documentary.

The system is rigged.

The officer who shot Alex worked for DHS for 8 years. The officer who shot Renee worked for DHS for over 10 years. Both are considered โ€œhighly trained.โ€

The problem isnโ€™t "training." DHS was built to violate our rights and has been empowered to act with impunity. We must MELT ICE and dismantle DHS.

Line chart titled "Reported polio cases in the United States". The y-axis represents the number of reported cases, ranging from 0 to 60,000. The x-axis represents the years, from 1910 to 2022. The chart shows a significant spike in polio cases in the late 1940s and early 1950s, peaking around 1952 with nearly 60,000 reported cases. After the introduction of the first polio vaccine in 1955, the number of cases declined sharply. By 1961, with over 85% of children under ten vaccinated, the cases were significantly reduced. The chart indicates that by 1980, wild polio had been eliminated from the US, with reported cases remaining near zero from that point onwards. The data includes both wild- and vaccine-derived poliovirus infections.

In the first half of the 20th century, tens of thousands of people (mostly children) suffered paralysis from polio. The first vaccine was introduced in the USA in 1955. Notice the trend afterwards.

I love how this graphic is totally unhelpful for determining whether you're going to get 30 inches of snow or half an inch of ice.

We also have to do what prior administrations could not: prosecute and punish. Big fan of what @tadstoermer.bsky.social has to say about the reconstruction era and how badly we missed the window to punish treason. We got Jim Crow as a result.

Sad another way, radial reform as a form of revolution.
