I am an author with a PhD in eighteenth-century literature, but I read all types of books. Welsh, disabled, cat lover, pescatarian, I live with my husband and two cats. www.traceymadeley.com

05.10.2025 14:33 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Take 2. I've done well this month with two superb books, James and The Screwtape Letters.
05.10.2025 14:32 โ ๐ 2 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Interesting, not sure how successful this will be. Amazon has extensive digital protection and as an author, you don't want to risk piracy. So if the new company can't guarantee this. Plus Amazon do extensive discounts, especially on the 1st of the month. #booksky

I keep hearing about this I think I will have to put it on my TBR.

29.09.2025 14:53 โ ๐ 7 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Absolutely, never judge a book by its cover. Hardy's tale of manipulation and tragedy is brilliant.

The shortlist is out and The Telegraph are predicting India (Kiran Desai) or Britain (Andrew Miller). I think it will probably be a novel about immigration, but it may not be Desai. We will see. #booksky

I believe it's 20 years since it was published.
23.09.2025 16:07 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Sometimes constructive criticism can help improve your writing. Others are absolute idiots who haven't got a clue what they are talking about. The secret is knowing difference.
23.09.2025 16:03 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0Percival Everett's James, Time Traveller's Wife and my current read and topical at the moment Twilight.

I'd be happy reading 6 books in the month. It's not the quantity it's the quality.

06.09.2025 15:40 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0August summary. Four books, three fiction and one non-fiction. Gothic, Midnight Bell. Historical fiction on Constantine. Christian non fiction overcoming fear. One sci-fi which disappointed.
Average month this month.
04.09.2025 15:43 โ ๐ 6 ๐ 1 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0I watched King & Conqueror on the BBC and thought, as the critics suggest, it may be historically inaccurate, but entertaining. If you are interested in something more well-researched, you could try MJ Porter's books on the Earl of Mercia. #booksky #historicalfiction

Love the frog, or is it Toad of Toad Hall.
31.08.2025 15:58 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 1 ๐ 0I'd love to say literature, but unlike most people, I know how high that standard is, so I'll say modern historical romantic fiction. Sales are also dependent on marketing, not just genre.
31.08.2025 15:51 โ ๐ 0 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0Romantasy sells, literature largely doesn't. It also sets the bar higher as we expect more of literary works.
31.08.2025 15:34 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0This is on my list to read, although I was a little put off when it first came out with the author's comment that 'he did not write for white people.' The Luminaries is another long book without the violence but some weird astrological references.
31.08.2025 14:54 โ ๐ 1 ๐ 0 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 0That is certainly dedication and as a promotional message it is definitely different.
