Someone who knows how to flute his ego is really in charge and clearly has no political competence at all. This is self sabotage.

Some of the manosphere audienxe are toxic incels, but a lot are regular guys who like to work with their hands, lift weights, and enjoy traditionally masculine things. The progressive attitude towards masculinity is off putting to a lot of regular men who aren’t in a state of crisis.

IMO this was born from an overzealous reliance on sources “familiar with the matter”. The dependence journos have developed on this kind of reporting has clearly been manipulated by bad faith actors trying to discredit the media, and it has worked.

Indifference to credible sourcing is the de facto business model of legacy media. Inciting this kind of anger is all thats left in order to stay relevant. People only read the NYT/WAPO to find out what they’re lying about and to extrapolate a bigger meaning from that.

Presidents are more of a function of the types of personalities that surround them. Obama had technocrats, Bush had warmongers, and Trump has a coalition of sycophants ego-manipulators. The latter group is the most dangerous, as they know precisely how to massage Trump's ego in order to move policy.

If you don't like it, you don't need to partake in it. People are always going to do dumb things whether its legal or not, this sort of advocacy almost always backfires.

This is worthy of sociological study. This would very much explain why the GOP's floor in terms of approval is always around the high 30s / low 40s.

Grievance politics only needs to persuade a small number of people in a democracy.
