MAGA wants to return to this pre-Me Too era. They want unfettered access to women’s bodies and labor. Closing domestic violence and rape crisis centers is happening and reproductive rights are in the toilet. We need feminism to fight back.

The culture prior to Me Too was different. Girls and young women were routinely sexualized and sexually harassed in service work. Reagan came to a hotel where I worked in the 80’s and I was asked by the manager to attend a party for his secret service. I refused.

Yes I am familiar. My first husband attended a British boarding school.

Many immigrants to the US come to escape genocide. However, living through doesn’t automatically lead to objection to the conditions that lead to history repeating itself. We learn that domination and inequality are acceptable in our families. Rigid gender roles in families are ground zero.

You don’t need boarding school for this. Christian right churches in the US instruct parents to use abusive parenting practices (look up blanket training) which sever attachment bonds with parents. Children are raised to be obedient to fathers and the church but the church comes first.

That’s how accountability works but for most people, seeing it in action is a misty memory.

A vote for Trump was absolutely a vote for lawlessness and grift. It was a me first and the rules should not apply to me vote.

I get it :) The GOP are fascist so conservatives have to pretend to be liberal. There is a paradox of tolerance these folk never own up to. I think it begins in families. Inequality in our families normalizes and even makes inequality invisible everywhere else. We are fish that cannot see water.

So exceptionalism is now liberalism? It’s ok for other people to experience discrimination but not me? Universalism is a key principle of liberalism.

I don’t understand why these views are not labeled conservative. Williams cannot claim to be a liberal while failing to acknowledge the realities of systematic oppression. He isn’t merely a fool, he props up injustice by denying its existence and becomes a tool of the far right.

GOP is lawless. Zero accountability.

We learn to accept inequality in our families first because of a gendered imbalance in emotional labor-especially perspective-taking. This prioritization of men’s views leads to the exploitation of women’s labor. Blind acceptance of this inequality in the family normalizes inequality everywhere.
