Ada programmer, retired but still at it, on Mac. At the other place,I was a "Deeply unhelpful cave-dwelling liberal-elite filthy remoaner citizen of nowhere. Moralising cog in an engine of evil." https://github.com/simonjwright

Fear itβs just bloody stupid.
A punch & judy show in the margin

10.01.2025 18:27 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0@remike.bsky.social 's command of English seems pretty good to me. 'Sum of water' is not at all idiomatic.
10.01.2025 18:25 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0@ohgodwhatnow.bsky.social My daughter gifted me a sub but I couldnβt claim it because I was already a member, so (absent any obvious way to contact you) I cancelled my existing membership; still canβt claim the gift!!! What was I supposed to do? What can you do to help?

24.11.2024 17:06 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Why is it that people post the headline three times? and nothing else? Looks like incompetence

21.11.2024 07:16 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I didn't listen to the whole thing, but it felt shouty. And C hadn't started shouting when I left.
It's like living in your parent's mansion with little income: come IHT you'll need to sell up
J OβB was talking (shouting) over his comments and not making the slightest attempt to understand what his point was. It may or may not have been a good point, and there might be counter-arguments. It would have been good to have had a discussion rather than a flat-out rejection.

19.11.2024 13:54 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 2 π 0Continuing to live on the farm might well count as benefiting from the trust, depending I guess on how clever your lawyers were (relative to HMRC's lawyers, ofc).
The taper element does apply if the gift to the trust was above the IHT threshold.
Listen to me sounding as though I was an expert :-(
A settlor (the person who gave the property to the trust) can be a trustee, but can't be a beneficiary.
19.11.2024 12:49 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0That happens at the other place, too.
19.11.2024 12:20 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The settlor can't be a beneficiary. And, unless rules are different for farms, the 7-year rule applies.
