Jury is out on Triangular prism, stoicism, the papal schism,
08.02.2026 16:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Was thinking about this for another reason. It's that politics is very very easy to cover as a news org cutting costs. There is a public figure who has a real connection to your audience, and another one willing to pile shit on them. Which I think explains why everything is political now.

06.02.2026 18:49 β π 6 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Yea, it's certainly not what people experience. Including things like white goods, which are purchased rarely, and often not at all by renters, skews it quite a lot. It also doesn't account for changes in utility and durability really.
05.02.2026 09:26 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And/or people don't experience inflation in the average? And certainly not in the way CPI is measured and calculated?
05.02.2026 08:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0If it's POV is it just a video of like a wall or a laptop?

03.02.2026 22:49 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Why does he need protective gear? He just spent like a million years underground and the we're sending him straight back down and are like 'watch your head, there might be rocks'.

03.02.2026 21:15 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Wasp sting in the actual eye. Swelled up instantly. could only get aerosol spray. But then after 10 minutes the swelling went down, and turned out it was in my eyelid and was gone after a few days. (Did have to host a webinar with investment managers with a swollen eye though)

03.02.2026 15:34 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0The weird but about this particular story, is that it makes the 'I just paid him for tax advice' claims of some investor types seem a tad less outrageous. I mean, still immoral if not illegal, but i guess feasible that's what it was for.
03.02.2026 10:47 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not seen the last episode, but I've been irked at the fact he has no interactions with hotel staff thus far. Which already irked me in the first series that it's called the night manager and by episode 2, they were just talking about his military experience.

01.02.2026 21:56 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0My employer uses a learning portal, and since it seems I will be using AI in the near future. I thought I'd see if they have any courses. Amusingly, the learning portal also has AI built into the search, which makes it nigh on impossible to access the courses.
30.01.2026 17:07 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0It firmly implies they've been ordering from menus. Which we don't even see the hobbits using in the one commercial kitchen we see in the whole of middle earth.
28.01.2026 22:56 β π 9 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I feel pretty sure 'twenty days to history' is not intentionally an oxymoron. Like they almost stupided their way into a passable word play, but not quite.
28.01.2026 22:45 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Charlemagne is arguably an even better example, or Karlus Magnus as my wife calls him as if to underline the point. (TBF I think it was his grandsons that split it all up)
28.01.2026 22:23 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Like the covers are raised lettering kinda thing usually. It is really a waste tbh, they must spend real money to halve the value of these notebooks.
28.01.2026 22:00 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0a second weird effect is that I never need notes from the main thing. But I bring my actual notebook with me in case I get something juicy from the chat after. Which I then feel I need to sneak off to secretly write in my actual notebook. (Because that needs to be in chronological order)
28.01.2026 21:27 β π 2 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Now I have a cupboard of moleskin notepads with some extinct banks logo on and something like 'my trousers are getting tight, must eat better' on the first page in shorthand. So they're much too empty and nice to throw away. But much too corporate and weird to use for anything good.
28.01.2026 21:24 β π 14 π 1 π¬ 3 π 0A weird conundrum of being a financial journalist is constantly going to briefings from banks where they offer you a pretty good branded notepad. Often just at your seat. Feels weird to not use it but then take it. So I usually write like one line of gibberish shorthand.
28.01.2026 21:24 β π 7 π 1 π¬ 1 π 0Is this how far back they go in the new Odysseus movie?
27.01.2026 23:03 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Was kind of hoping someone would pull me up on this. Because I genuinely have two other clocks I hate, and I could do with some pressure to round out the top 5
27.01.2026 22:56 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0And you know, the UK isn't technically 400 years old, which would be super pedantic if we weren't specifically talking about emigration therefrom.
27.01.2026 22:43 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0Not entirely convinced that GDP growth is especially English, nor that that is down to any reason to leave England rather a huge continent of resources to use. The US is made up of equally as many Germanic and Irish emigrants which says a lot as an English former colony.
27.01.2026 22:36 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0Depends on your views on what you think of being good at being English is, and whether you think a can-do attitude is more important than couple of continents worth of natural resources I guess. I have heard Australia still has Woolworths though, so who's to say?
27.01.2026 22:21 β π 1 π 0 π¬ 1 π 0I'll maybe admit Jamaica, Tortuga, madagascar and Nassau were briefly somewhat emigrations from Englishness. But...not entirely sure he's arguing for piracy.
27.01.2026 22:06 β π 0 π 0 π¬ 0 π 0I mean. I don't want to teach the guy US, or just really basic world history. But in a good 300 of the 400 years he's talking about there. The people weren't leaving England. They were notoriously taking England with them. For like a good 30+ years of the remaining bit, we had a lot going on.
