4 years old on a TI-99/4A, not sure if the very first game was Indoor Soccer or TI Invaders because they came together (there were also Parsec and Alpiner, which were great too for the time, and a few tape oddities).

I have a friend who said, of Starfleet Academy, that this took them out of it - that seeing a person in a wheelchair in the 32nd century seemed unrealistic, since medicine in Star Trek "should be able to cure whatever was wrong with them."

That's not the case, for any number of possible reasons.

Wait wait wait... I think I finally figured out who they are. Who the customer is for this AI: the IDEA GUY.

You know, that dude who breezes into your mentions who thinks their idea is special. That it's the most important thing. To them, the prompt IS the game!

How did I not see this sooner?

Star Trek literally addressed this nearly 40 years ago with this scene. In quote Riker himself, it's "incredibly outmoded and sexist attitude" to think Klingons can't wear skirts.

I mean to appeal to somebody's better angels one has to wonder IF that somebody has any better angel, which one can easily guess this US administration does not have in any form or shape, and if it had those angels were probably disappeared or deported a while ago.

To some degree I get the why one would pick the lesser evil if the ONLY options left at all are full-on-nazi vs mostly-nazi, the disturbing thing is how it translates into "make it so that the mostly-nazi WILL be the only other option" from the very start because they DO want nazi votes. Fuck that.

Big Mac The Mad Maintenance Man

Not a McDonald’s licence game, but a very playable platformer. The graphics and sound are simple, but the level design is solid and the gameplay is instantly addictive. A cracking early budget release from Mastertronic.

Anyway, again, I say: consider hiring localizers for your creative writing needs. Anybody who lasts in this field has the chops to deliver polished, on-spec material without compromising the process. (And, quite frankly, free of a lot of the technical/compositional sloppiness you'll find elsewhere.)

He does not want Star Trek. He wants to co-opt the aesthetic of Star Trek to sell his techno-feudalist futurist wet dream. Star Trek hates men like him.

Excerpt from Wikipedia reads: "Fight against merchandising his characters
For years, Watterson battled against pressure from publishers to merchandise his work, something that he felt would cheapen his comic through compromising the act of creation or reading.[21][22]

He refused to merchandise his creations on the grounds that displaying Calvin and Hobbes images on commercially sold mugs, stickers, and T-shirts would devalue the characters and their personalities. Watterson said that Universal kept putting pressure on him and that he had signed his contract without fully perusing it because, as a new artist, he was happy just to find a syndicate willing to give him a chance (two other syndicates had previously turned him down). He added that the contract was so one-sided that, if Universal really wanted to, they could license his characters against his will, and could even fire him and continue Calvin and Hobbes with a new artist. Watterson's position eventually won out, and he was able to renegotiate his contract so that he would receive all rights to his work. Later he said that the licensing fight exhausted him and contributed to the need for a nine-month sabbatical in 1991.[23]"

Bill Watterson is my favorite cartoonist. I adored the relationship btw Calvin and Hobbes as a child. But as I've gotten older, these strips feel even more tender and insightful. My respect for him grew when I learned of his stance against merchandising. Such principles are almost unheard of today.

"i will never be able to play all games or watch all movies or read all books that i want" is a tough yet fundamental lesson to learn. there isn't enough time in a human life

therefore, you can and should be selective

You are assigning a very specific health condition to a broad range of body types. A certain (clothed, I remind you) body structure does not necessarily translate into obesity, take for example weightlifters (which would well suit Jem'Hadar or Klingon), and again we're talking aliens not humans.

I love that science fiction is supposed to portray species of all shapes and forms (with the sorta joke of ST mostly having "humans in make up") but apparently is no longer "believable" if a body does not pass the jacking off requirements of a drugged up techbro.

The nutjobs are coming out of the woodwork with a new Star Trek show with a diverse cast coming out this week. It's fucking hilarious to see them complaining about DEI in Trek when its creator literally said the following:

Commodore 128 introduced Jan 5, 1985 The Commodore 128, announced January 5, 1985 and released later that year, has always been a controversial computer.

41 years ago this week, Commodore introduced its much misunderstood C-128. Ask anyone, and everything about it should have been different. Like the CPU. So why didn't Commodore use a 65816 CPU? Because it wasn't available yet. #retrocomputing #vintagecomputing dfarq.homeip.net/commodore-12...
