My husband is beautiful.

“Funny. I was just thinking the same thing about you. I guess we’re both really lucky.” He leaned into the kisses, letting out a contented sigh. “I know I am.”

“Thursday,” he answered breathlessly, thumbs rubbing gentle circles into Damian’s thighs.

“I thought you liked when my clothes liked tight shirts on me.”

Jon leaned down into the kiss, hoisting Damian up with his hands supporting his husband’s thighs.

“I know exactly what I’m saying, beautiful.”

“You can do more than kiss me,” he hummed, pulling Damian closer, his own hands hook behind his prince’s waist.

“No, no. Tomorrow, I’ll take you. Why spoil the surprise?”

Dinner was amazing, not just the food but his company. Another face in the crowd for some but Damian’s was the only face he saw, the only heartbeat he heard.

Jon flew them home once dinner was over, landing on the apartment balcony. +

“Well, maybe I was just seeing if there were any there that were worth your time. A soon-to-be-famous painter needs to be selective about who he associates with,” he teased.

“I got my suit, got some ties, aaaand I went to an animal shelter to pet some dogs,” he admitted sheepishly. “I was just missing Krypto.”

“Sorry, you’re right.” He took Damian’s hand, tracing his thumb along Damian’s palms. “So, why don’t you tell me about your day?”

Damian was too good for him, too sweet. “Maybe… I just—. A fresh start isn’t something many people get. I don’t want to waste it.”

“I’ll find a better job,” he promised. “I want you to be able to just focus on your art, your passions.”

But, god, how would he find something? They’d have to fabricate some work experience, as people didn’t tend to count ‘survived an apocalypse’ as experience.

“And here I thought I was the symbol of hope,” Jon’s brow, wrinkled with worry, softened, those purple eyes tracing over every inch of his husband’s face. And, most likely to Damian’s amusement, it did make him blush.

“I trust whatever you think is the right move.”

+ A rejection from his family? That would destroy Jon’s husband.

“And if they don’t? If they want to ship us off to some other world? We have a chance to be happy here. And I’m not against it, just… just trying to think of all possibilities.”

Some days, it felt like he could only think of the negatives, but… he just didn’t want to see Damian hurting.+

“Do you think you’ll ever reveal yourself to your family here?” It might be a sensitive subject but Jon would be lying if he said he hadn’t considered it.

There was no stopping the smile and blush that appeared in his face. “You are a hopeless romantic, Damian Wayne.” Jon leaned forward, kissing his husband across the table.

“But we have to also make lives here; friends, jobs, family.”

“I don’t expect you to ruin your schedule to be able to cuddle with me. Besides, if you’re doing work, you’ll need a normal schedule, even if that work is as an independent artist.”

“I mean, I do like the… other meaning too,” he mumbled, a knowing smile spreading across his lips. “I’d start at 10:00PM clock out at 6:00am.”

“Or adjust your schedule,” he hummed, placing his napkin on his lap. “I like sleeping with you.” The words slipped out but it sounded dirtier than he meant. “You know what I mean!”

“I, uh, wanted to try to look fancier,” he admitted with another blush. “The lady said it was a good accent. I thought it was a lot but she convinced me.”

He shrugged, glancing down. “Is it too much?”

+ Once the glasses were poured and the waiter was gone again, Jon held up his glass. “To us and being together.”

Jon opened his mouth to answer but just as the words were about to leave his mouth, another voice. “Your wine, sirs.” Jon gave a small, awkward nod as the waiter poured the glasses.

He had wanted champagne to celebrate but figured wine would go better with the meal… making decisions was hard. +

“They, uh, didn’t have the exact measurements I needed but I figured it was close enough.” God, he was blushing like a teenager.

“So, first date. Reservations… we’re actual functioning members of society.”

+ complimented by a floral tie, giving a sophisticated but relaxed look to the man. Though, it was hard not to find form-fitting clothes when you were his size.

“You’re beautiful,” he whispered, taking Damian’s hands once he was in reach. “The most beautiful thing in the entire world.”

Jonathan’s eyes caught Damian and his heart about leapt out of his chest. The rest of the restaurant could have been empty for he would’ve only seen Damian. He stood, adjusting his hair. On his finger, he wore the ring. He was traditional, in some senses.

“I’ll text you the time of the reservation, okay?” Jonathan gave Damian one more kiss before heading out. The shopping trip was a success, the tie acquired. Plus, he even got himself a nice suit and a haircut.

With a quick text, he sent Damian the address and time. 6 o’clock.
