I’m not an expert, just a caregiver daughter who experienced the journey to an FTD diagnosis and its inevitable end with her mom. Mutism can happen in Alzheimer’s and FTD. But in FTD, mutism is a feature not a bug. FTD also has a significantly shorter timeline, so effects will present more quickly.

Explanation: I remember what forgetting how to talk looks like and what trying to cover up that you’ve forgotten how looks like. His eyes during the NRA freeze - the processing, the feigned “hmm” to look like he’s thinking about something instead of trying to figure out how to talk again? He forgot.

I googled what I thought I remembered because I’m certainly susceptible to wishful hoping that Trump will to shut up. There were a couple of instances of him freezing up - an NRA speech and a Montana appearance. The Montana one looks to be on purpose, but his eyes during the NRA one say differently.

My mom passed away from FTD and I was her caregiver, so I’m very familiar with the symptoms. Wasn’t there an incident during his campaign where he just randomly went mute for a little while? That’s another giant indicator of FTD.
