Kudzu, an invasive vine that climbs over anything to get more sunlight, is having a good year. It grows fast and often makes interesting shapes from the structures it covers, such as these trees and bushes at the roadside.

A basilica orbweaver, about a half inch (12 mm) long, gently positions a silk wrapped ball of eggs below another suspended in her web. Several of these tiny mamas live in our bushes, some with as many as 6 or 7 little beads suspended in their webs.

Each of these pictures is second to another that was at a slightly more pleasing angle or better focus. Without the better shot next to them to compare, I'm happy that they get a little love too.
