I'm hoping that the ʻAlalā have recovered and expanded their range by the time I visit Hawaii again (which won't be for a while). I did get a distant look at a masked booby tho.

Avian August Day 6 is ʻApapane! DMC reminds me that shades of red are hard.
This is also another bird I got really good looks of at volcanoes NP and Haleakalā NP.

Manu-o-Kū (White Tern) for day 10 of #AvianAugust ☁️

The Avian August challenge hit a small roadblock for me because I had 2 works in progress and it was eating away at me. So I'm trying to finish the big fail dice. I really hope I have a spare 939 in my hoard.

God, I love watching gulls eat starfish. The most inconvenient food shape possible.

Also because I know this fabric is too small for 31 birds.

Avian August Day #4 is the Hawaiian coot! It took me forever to get the head shield to not look like a mess in the digital pattern. But I had to roll with it! Also a photo of a pair of coots to accompany the stitch.

Day 3 of #AvianAugust is the Hawaii Akepa! Didn't manage to see this bird (I was happy to see like the 5 endemic Hawaii birds). But it's very orange!
Also some birds are gonna be smaller because I'm 100% sure I can't fit 31 birds on this fabric I cut because I can't math.

Day 2 of #AvianAugust is done featuring the Laysan Albatross. This is another bird I've had the pleasure of seeing in the wild! It took an hour hike to see them, but I saw them and took nearly 4000 photos of them.

Please let me be your friend and stop running away from me. I have given you the finest of magpie treats and water, also the yard is huge and full of grasshoppers and other bugs.

The first day of #AvianAugust is done featuring the 'I'iwi! I was lucky enough to see a few of these birds while in Hawaii this past February.
And yes I am going to actually mark down what thread colors I use. I duno why, I'll never stitch this again most likely.

The spoons are very low today, honestly that's nothing new. But I've been putting off monthly challenges pretty much all year. I duno how I made so many designs last year, I'm having a hard time making them this year. I'm being too picky. I just have to full send.

I wasn't on this platform last year, so here's a few pieces I did last year for Avian August. The theme was pigeons and doves and I went with cross stitching! I guess I'm doing it again this year with Hawaiian birds.

A larger body of water where some shorebirds have stopped over. There were mostly long-billed dowitchers, least sandpiper, killdeer, semipalmated sandpiper, Wilson's phalaropes, lesser yellowlegs (maybe a greater but hard to tell because distance) and some yet to be ID'd medium peeps.

The peeps are returning! Fall migration is kicking off with northern breeding shorebirds making their way down the Pacific coast.
Also feck it's hot out here... I'm ready for fall temperatures.
