I haven't seen the lit review tree concept before in any context, but I love it! It would be hard to justify the use of space in a conference paper format but it's perfect for slides.

Maybe it's survivorship bias and your background slides did their job!
If you think the audience is similar and want to experiment, you could make an early slide basically a lit review table and intro it as "I wrote this talk assuming most of you are familiar with the motivation and prior work".
