- I just about held it together until the last song... uncontrollable, like a baby ๐
Screencap of Ryan Gosling in Drive (2011) wearing the mask from that one scene
DRIVE (2011)
- Ryan Gosling is better looking blond, I'll say that much
- I've been wary of Winding Refn because he seemed very Edge over Substance to me and this didn't dissuade me of that
- there's too much fucking shit on me
PEARL (2022)
- she's just a little quirky ๐ข be nice to her!
LA LA LAND (2016)
- thought I'd find this annoying or inoffensively charming and it's the former. annoying movie. the songs aren't good. I don't want them to live their stupid dreams
- I'm a big sap and love romance but every single scene between them was unbelievably awkward? What am I missing here
NO OTHER CHOICE (2025)
- again, sillier than I thought (in a good way), also somehow both less and more brutal than I thought (had to watch through my fingers at one point ๐ฆท)
DOUBLE FEATURE: 2026 OSCAR NOMS
FRANKENSTEIN (2025)
- Artificial looking, the 1st half is bloated and the movie beats you over the head to make sure you get that he's the real monster you see???
- Oscar Isaac is hot though
WEAPONS (2025)
- much goofier than I expected
- anti-ad for Campbell's soup

- very pretty movie but after 5 minutes I was like... oh the whole movie is like this. okay
- but it is very pretty!

- so good, so sad, so grim but weirdly funny at the same time... the most 'the 60s are over' movie ever probably

- I don't care that the pacing and editing is a constant assault on the senses, I love how this movie looks and I want to eat it to absorb its power

16.01.2026 01:06 โ ๐ 52 ๐ 6 ๐ฌ 0 ๐ 3Part one of comic. Carol sits on a computer stool despondent with her head in her hands. Her wife Helen is standing with a smartphone set on a tripod. HELEN: I know, baby. It's just one little video. It'll take less than a minute. CAROL: Random House wouldn't make me do this...
Part two of comic. Panel 1: Carol sits up and smooths her hair back, exhaling. CAROL: Alright. I'm ready for my humiliation ritual. HELEN (off-panel): That's the spirit! Panel 2: Carol gestures dismissively while Helen stands with her hands behind her back with a neutral smile. CAROL: At least it's not one of those *stupid* 'look at all the tropes in this book!' type things. I hate those. PANEL 3: Helen looks off to the side. Carol looks at her apprehensively. BOTH: ... PANEL 4: Helen produces a mock-up of a promo for Bloodsong of Wycaro complete with arrows pointing to the book's cover listing all of the tropes within. HELEN: So I talked to Val... Carol buries her face again, frustrated.

- I want to like this but it's not for me... I'm glad Weird Girl movies are still being made though
- lots of Edward Scissorhands and Heathers comparisons but weirdly the movie I thought about most during this was... Serial Mom
MINDHORN (2016)
- got some laughs out of me but it's so middle of the road, the premise is funnier than the execution... also far too Partridge-adjacent for a film that Steve Coogan is also in
JAWBREAKER (1999)
- SO disappointing... this looked right up my alley but it's: stupid, sexist, homophobic, cringe-inducing, waste of Pam Grier, derivative, unfunny, Marilyn Manson is there
CRIT. LIST: BARRY LYNDON (1975) (film not on your watchlist)
- Would make a great double bill with Draughtsman's Contract if you like a) stunning picturesque landscapes and b) films about obnoxious assholes who get what's coming to them
- That would be 5 hours of period dialogue though so maybe not

- so charming and funny I can overlook the frankly excessive amounts of Tim Allen
BOTTLE ROCKET (1996)
- really promising start and enjoyed the end but unfortunately there's an hour of nothing in between except a language-barrier romance that was really weird and off-putting
- also I can't suspend my disbelief that Owen and Luke Wilson are non-related friends, look at them

- I liked it (despite the depressingly realistic ending) but the most satisfying part was finally having context for this scene after first watching this a decade ago:
