… that doesn’t refute anything I said, I literally said that even at their lowest attendance in the last years (when the new ownership group was actively pushing attendance down), they still surpassed OKC at times. OKC avg attendance in 22 was 15k. SEA was 16k. :)

Nuance is important. Most teams that left were shortly replaced (like Minnesota), hadn’t been originally from that place to begin with, or moved in an era when relocation was more standard.

Seattle is an outlier - an expansion team with no replacement in a time that relocation is rare.

To be clear the “Sonics weren’t supported” idea has been long debunked. I was there every game., that simply wasn’t true. Seattle has always primarily been a bball town, which is why them leaving is still so fresh. Seattle’s lowest attendance surpassed OKC’s most years.

Also Seattle had the chance to take a team from someone else (Sacramento). We didn’t want to do to others what had happened to us, and so it ultimately lost support and didn’t go through (amongst other reasons). OKC fans could have done that, but they didn’t. So yes, OKC fans did play a role.

Are you serious? The people of OKC supported the move even though it was public knowledge how it was happening. It wouldn’t have happened without public support.

Sure, Clay Bennett, Aubrey McClendon, etc have the primary blame. But to say that OKC fans had no role is not true. They wanted this.

That doesn’t mean anything. Seattle had a deal signed with the Sonics to remain through 2010, and they still moved. No team is truly safe, especially in smaller markets.
