Toured the National Xenopus Resource @mblscience.bsky.social today, and I'm pleased to report that the #Xenopus genus definitely comprises 100% charming little weirdos 🐸

We're in the same boat at U of A. Alberta labor board complaint for bad faith negotiating and everything. Grateful I can write for next year, but I need to get on it.

Had the fun and privilege of imaging the eye from a bobtail squid. None of my vertebrate markers worked (as expected), but got some nice images nonetheless :) πŸ¦‘πŸ§ͺ

Hi all, we got a grant for a cool project that will follow up of our paper published a few months ago (see below). We will explore how light acts as a morphogen to instruct PCP. If you are looking for a postdoc position and interested in this topic, please reach out!

Sam has this, and I end up covering it with a jacket all the time when I drive his car because it reflects the sun and blinds you. Super obnoxious.

How Better Models of Macular Degeneration Could Help Prevent Vision Loss Most experimental models that researchers use to study macular degeneration fall short. BrightFocus Macular Degeneration Research grant recipient Dr. Brittany Carr aims to change that.

Thank you to the the @brightfocus.bsky.social for featuring my research on retinal deposits and their potential association with AMD. 🐸πŸ§ͺ @dianebovenkamp.bsky.social

Concentrate on making your little part of the world as good as it can be, instead of despairing about being unable to change the entire thing.

We are experiencing severe edema in developing tadpoles before 1 week old. I haven't dealt with this before, and was wondering if anyone had suggestions? We tried 0.1x MMR & tadpole ringer + bicarb, but no difference. It's also seemingly random, since we've also had completely healthy batchesπŸ§ͺ🐸

AI, peer review and the human activity of science When researchers cede their scientific judgement to machines, we lose something important.

A few months ago, Nature published how-to guide for using ChatGPT to write your peer reviews in 30 minutes.

This is, of course, a horrible idea. Here’s my response with @jbakcoleman.bsky.social .
