β€˜The perfect target’: Russia cultivated Trump as asset for 40 years – ex-KGB spy The KGB β€˜played the game as if they were immensely impressed by his personality’, Yuri Shvets, a key source for a new book, tells the Guardian

I think about this a lot...

The idea that the world cannot descend into tyranny and that we in the 21st century are somehow innured against it because all that stuff is in the past is very dangerous indeed. There is nothing exceptional about any era or time.

The fact that much of his behaviour might actually be explained better by a neurodevelopmental difference.

Who's with me?

Those with some experience or knowledge of ADHD will see what I'm getting at here.

Tchaikovsky has long been shamed for his bugromania, and his music psychoanalysed from every other angle. But I'd love to see more people digging a bit deeper than the tired tortured homosexual argument and exploring

Later in life he was either described as the life of the party, or in contrast the hermit of Klin. Nobody seems quite able to pin him down.

Clue number... I forget where we're up to... was his ambiguous sense of gender. One of his letters is even signed as 'from your loving sister Petrolina'.

His party tricks were playing the piano with a towel over his hands and guessing the key of pieces he heard.

His lack of ability to regulate his emotions is well documented, not least by his own letters through the adult years.

He was obsessive to detail, particularly in the pursuit of lovers.

One night he was found crying because the music in his head just wouldn't stop, and another time he was tapping his fingers so hard on the window, presumably to the music in his head, that the glass broke and he cut himself.

His musical prowess was quite remarkable even as a child too

As a child P.T was highly sensitive - 'a child of glass'. He was, by his governesses account, a good boy who 'shone through something uncommon... inexplicably enchanted everyone' and yet 'distinguished by his untidiness, shock headed, carelessly dressed [and] grubby from some unthinking act'...

Did anyone ever notice that by today's standards Tchaikovsky would probably be diagnosed with ADHD or Autism?

In 2020 my pg research led me to exactly this conclusion... but funnily enough I didn't have the staying power to write it up and claim an MLitt!

Hear me outπŸ‘‡

Wrapping up the final details on my hand stitched late 18th C inspired fall front trousers. I've learned so much on this project. Not least that clothes just aren't the quality they used to be (and we're no longer taught how to judge that).

Nothing says 'the continued relevance of monarchy' quite like a billionaire, English, unelected king, dressed up as a Scottish laird, turning up at a food bank in a helicopter

Lovely evening performing in a candlelit concert at Newcastle Castle last night. Indigo sang some Christmas bangers to a sold out hall, and we enjoyed some beautiful singing by Nightigale and the Lark too.

Genuinely think anyone can β€œgit gud” at any creative craft they are interested in. If we wanted to actually β€œdemocratize” art we would invest in housing, healthcare, food and education as human rights. All GenAI does is make people even more financially precarious and less able to pursue a passion

Brexit makes no sense in a world dominated by Trump. Britain’s place is back in the EU | Jonathan Freedland From defence to trade, the incoming US president is upending the old order – and standing apart from our neighbours leaves us dangerously exposed, says Guardian columnist Jonathan Freedland
