Cough Fee

Steam-scalded air
buckles under plastic-lights.
I sit,
a spill of
sh-
ell shucked
thoughts.

A skinny barista
all factory-cold lattΓ©d grin,
trades a cardboard sleeve
for my soul.

I’m a bisked it-man,
spangling
against the ceramic-rim.
I cough, and the
till rings
again.

Llancaiach Fawr Manor Ghost Tour

So many similarities between
a near empty church
and a supposed haunted house,
I think in both it’s about
straining:
being overcome
with that overwhelming need
to hear
then understandably
filling in what’s missing
yourself.

No single admission guaranteeing
a spiritual experience
and even if it did
feeling the same things
as anyone else.

You #obfuscate your heart,
yet like moon’s silver edge,
your longings wander
the seams of nightfall,
before writing yourself across my skin.

Like stars peddling memories,
you dust me in your fragmentsβ€”
half-formed notes of warmth
that dry on my heart
until shadows swallow you
once more.

A view across grassland to hills beyond. Bright blue sky with thin white cloud, thicker across the hills with a line of mist hugging the base. A thin line of sea just visible, right. pockets of gorse , poking up from the grassy plateau.

Good morning. Thankfully the icy easterly retreated yesterday and walking the dog was a lot more pleasant. The view to Ben Bhraggie was striking with the mist hovering.

Have a great day, folks.

Basement Window

Dr Timothy Clark Smith
decays
in a Vermont graveyard,
a narrow chimney
from his rotten face
reaches trodden grass,
the vent itself capped
by a cataract of nineteenth century glass.

Taphophobia drove his flue
so, if awoken
buried deep,
mouthing as a stranded fish,
(the cruelest resurrection ruse),
the dull spotlight would slither down
and halter Dr Smith.

This misty window
remains today -
opening up his forever home,
but droplets pock the opaque pane:
his bottled tears
perhaps outlasting
the dissolution of his bones.

(Dr Smith resides in Evergreen Cemetery, New Haven
and to this day his self-designed windowed grave can be visited.)
