Love this poem, Emily. And I've thought often about what you wrote in your intro that "escape through nature's not realistic for everyone." I find myself taking for granted this privilege that has been denied to so many in our world.

"to heat empty stoves" is such an evocative way to express innocents being denied the most basic of human needs, and is especially poignant as those with cash head out of town. Very nice.
