I feel a little bad for some of them because it's not their fault that the author became a huge bigot, and I understand they're in a tough spot business-wise.

However some stores are still going all in as 'the HARRY POTTER SHIT STORE' and those I can't help but grimace at

I was just in Edinburgh -- because of their history a bunch of the stores in old town have Harry Potter stuff, but I think the better ones are trying to shake that identity and showcase their other wares (while clearing out the old stock where they can because they spent a lot of money on it)

Yes -- and ultimately the places that stick around are either VC funded, free/volunteer labor, and/or sell your data. I think mastodon is the best of the three options for smaller groups but also it leads to a rough dynamic that doesn't scale too far past 'the mods and their friends'

I played a few NES games last year and... got through most of it, but as I got towards the end I didn't feel like going back to the start. I beat them in about a day and I was fine with that; some of them just pad their length with difficulty. Classic is still nice, but as long as it's fun you good!

Once you hit your 40's you're allowed to get really weird with it. You can do this in your 30's too so go for it, but if you want to focus on your career or keeping up appearances maybe just spend your 30's exploring weirdness and then hit the ground running. Or just be weird now, I'm not your dad

It does sound like the heads are too close to the VC bubble to be clear headed about it and that may come back to 'who is paying the bills'. The dynamic kind of reminds me of substack who seemed to bend over backwards and twist themselves in knots to fail the nazi bar test.

Good write up! I like bluesky because it's easy to use and I can find most of my scattered friends from cohost and video game sites here. I don't understand why I should care about what atproto is and it does seem like it's just a case of bluesky corp trying to make fetch happen

Open streets had a lot of queer and neurodiverse rep too -- I saw the woman who painted my face at the folk festival, a lot of pride stickers and pins around, and met people from my queer meetup group. It was real nice and I got to enjoy biking one more time!

I also went to Open Streets Lowell today. It was a little small but it was still nice! I biked over to cafe eclipse, got to be a little fun and outgoing at the festival, and met up with some friends randomly! Also got to see some furries, who I did not know but they seemed like they were having fun!

My dad had been a little hard for me to engage with but some new perspective of mine helped me figure out how to engage with him on his terms, and I don't think we've ever talked more. It was great!

Mostly has a good day today! My dad came down and I took him on my Saturday morning adventure of the diner and bowling. My mom is away this weekend but we talked a lot and I think he had a great time!
