A criticism of the CDR community has been that it creates license to keep emitting CO2. Glad to hear @janicelachance.bsky.social of AGU emphasize that emissions reductions are necessary while also presenting an important framework for ethical climate interventions. Bravo, AGU!

A presentation slide that shows a table of mCDR priorities based on interviews and associated alignment and confidence to conduct these.
A series of interviews by the Meridian Institute found key themes necessary for progress in the mCDR field. Interestingly, there's low confidence that any of these things can be achieved in the timescale needed, particularly around community engagement.

A presentation slide lays out a few approaches to address climate change: changing mindsets, being ambitious, and engaging civil society.
@phoebebarnard.bsky.social emphasizes that we need to work from bottom-up and top-down frameworks, creating a "restoration economy. "Time is not on our side", so increase ambition but ensure co-design.

I'm at #OceanVisions2025 this week for discussions on marine carbon dioxide removal! Interested to hear more the interactions between academia and industry in this field. It's also important to avoid leaving behind researchers outside of N America and Europe.

A quick update on the total climf&%kery that's taking place.
Through March 11th, 2025, the monthly average global surface temperature for March, 2025 is the hottest on record.
The madness of this moment is going to end horrifically for most living creatures. And that is incredibly sad.

It still baffles me that so many of us who rely on our brains for our work don't take as many precautions to continue to protect it from repeat infections.

π¨ #NOAA is essential for weather forecasting, climate research, and public safety.
AGU stands with the scientific community in urging Congress to protect and strengthen NOAA, not dismantle it.
Our economy, environment, and safety depend on it.

Indiscriminate, illegal firings of highly skilled employees after they've just gone through incredibly competitive hiring processes is not even close to reducing government "waste." Today's losses at NOAA negatively impact our country and planet.
