The Pseudoscience of Economics Value comes in many shapes and forms.

β€œOur concept of prosperity and happiness involves committing so much ecological fraud and telling ourselves so many lies that, being honest at this stage would require denouncing almost all of our history and culture. This would be a great start”

In a functioning society, this would have been front page news everywhere.

In our society, this didn't make the fine print.

As @georgemonbiot.bsky.social pointed out once, it's quite depressing to check the headlines when you know what the real headline should be...

New 'micro-volunteering' plan helps treat wombats with mange Many people don't want to become long-term volunteers, Yolandi Vermaak realised. So she came up with a new system to allow people to get involved and save the wombats.

Canberrans are stepping up to help wombats that are under threat from mange - a cruel disease devastating populations.

This community-led program is giving volunteers the tools to treat and protect wombats in the ACT.

Great to see this grassroots conservation πŸ‘

We just found a new toxic chemical in the air over the U.S. Science calls it β€œexciting.” We watch the biosphere fill with long-lived poisons… and still treat it like a fascinating science fair project instead of another warning flare.

in this time of polarization and disinfo, it’s important not to shy away from being honest even when it’s uncomfortable and inconvenient.

β€˜Self-termination is most likely’: the history and future of societal collapse An epic analysis of 5,000 years of civilisation argues that a global collapse is coming unless inequality is vanquished

β€˜The threat is from leaders who are β€œwalking versions of the dark triad” – narcissism, psychopathy and Machiavellianism – in a world menaced by the climate crisis, nuclear weapons, artificial intelligence and killer robots.’

The decline of evidence-based reasoning represents an existential threat to collective problem-solving capability.

This erosion is not random but systematic, driven by:
1. Commercial incentives that reward engagement over accuracy

On our 1 acre we make branch offcut heaps and let our native grasses grow long for our resident Northern Brown Bandicoots to live. The neighbours hate it! They mow theirs flat. In the long frost cured grass you can see tunnel entries from frequent use. #southerndownsqld #wildoz got cameras finally!

I’m home alone for 3 weeks, family in England. We’ve had 170mm winter rain this month (average July rain 29mm). I have whooping cough and I’m flooded in, can’t get out of my yard. So pretty peachy 😬

Power is a zero-sum game.

Democracy vs Autocracy.

As Trump seizes more power - that power is at the expense of America and American democracy.

Editors and journalists need to make this clear.

Peter Zeihan the end of the world is just the beginning. For me filled a lot of gaps that you sort know about the world but don’t know how it came about, the US as a superpower, the fiat money system and how geography and demographics matter to the world.

A bit late for me, the increase in our land value has meant council will increase my rates 114% this year. We are rural in a run down cottage and instead of spending money on the house it goes to council so they can grade our dirt road in two years time and not provide us town water.

Trump flags tariffs of 200pc on pharmaceuticals, 50pc on copper Donald Trump flags a possible 200 per cent tariff on pharmaceuticals β€” one of Australia's biggest exports to the US β€” and says copper could be hit with a 50 per cent levy.

We must never allow the US to dictate the terms of our PBS.

The PBS is a pillar of our universal health system. It is the reason why in Aus, we pay just A$21/month for cholesterol meds, while US citizens can pay A$2,628.

I live in a rural area and it’s the most reliable place 4 fire, police, flood, extreme weather & traffic updates current & easy 2 access. If someone builds an all in one app for that instead great but that’s the reason I joined & it’s the reason I still use. It’s a vital tool to keep my family safe

I’m on X because local weather, fire and traffic alerts r still there. I can check in one place quickly without trolling thu individual websites. A lot of gov depts still use it as the primary notification area and Facebook filters out too much of that stuff and shows you mindless videos instead

The Most Overlooked Value of Political Protest Small acts of staying quiet may seem merely polite or indifferent, but they can easily spiral.

"One of the most important, and most overlooked, functions of protest is to prevent the dreaded 'spiral of silence,' which can begin when people wrongly believe that their own point of view is not widely shared," Betsy Levy Paluck writes:
