How can you be a political analyst and think the senate operates like this

no one wants to hear this but the way to combat the messaging problem is probably to give the meidas touch crew a cable channel

the democratic party’s basic problem is it has almost no control over how its message reaches the ears of voters, especially outside of presidential election years. but rather than devote serious time, attention and cash to that problem its consultants and pundits want to fight factional battles

Far too many smug, privileged failchildren who think being contrarian is being insightful and actively help the fascists win to please the algorithm and their billionaire owners

I’ve mentioned this before but even if we somehow unite the center and far left and get minorities and men back none of that will change the fact that much of our media apparatus, legacy and independent, is staffed by stupid fucking dipshit babies

Matt’s losing it in the comments, I think this whole interaction made him go mask-off rightwinger

I think β€œwe protest Harris because we’d get arrested if we protested Trump” is rational, but I feel like you can’t say that and also expect people to treat said protesting as an especially brave or noble act then.

Ironically, that’s one of the criticisms that I *will* give Dems- that they insufficiently invested in the information/media environment and they’re struggling to find their feet now

IMO that’s far more critical than most of the Dems Bad stuff you regularly see on social media

The peer pressure of social media becomes extremely clear whenever anyone talks about Kamala or Hillary.

Every single reply is almost always prefaced with a "Look, Hillary wasn't perfect, but she was right, yada yada." "Harris isn't perfect, but she ran a great campaign etc. etc."

The media will never hold β€œnormal” politicians accountable if they’re barely capable of doing that for the Trump Administration

Unserious morons who treat politics as a content farm instead of something with real consequences and then congratulate themselves for their β€œbravery”

YouTube video by Democracy Docket BREAKING: House Passes SAVE Act, Major Voting Suppression Bill

NEW VIDEO: The U.S. House of Representatives passed a major voter suppression bill that would disenfranchise millions of eligible voters and badly undermine democracy.

You set the house on fire, watched it burn, and then lost your nerve and put it out. You now have a partially burned house. Great job.

If you think this can’t happen, remember that of the 125,000 Japanese Americans who were interned during WWII for years without charge or trial, two-thirds were U.S. citizens. Including me.

it’s cool how Tyler Austin Harper is like a magnet for all of the dumbest takes, like defending protectionism days after Trump’s tariffs crashed the economy

Listen, the Biden Dead-Enders were wrong but they also had LITERALLY ZERO influence in anything, while you, a β€œSerious Journalist” had some and chose to completely ignore the enormous risks.

Just no self-introspection at all. I hope you enjoy what you helped influence.

Trump voters are stupid but this episode has been the American elite (media, business, politics) being deeply, deeply stupid and completely unserious.

The voters kind of get a pass when their information system is so f’d. the elites who had a hand in screwing it up? Absolute morons.

Gods, just grant journalists the ability to do SOME introspection on the big part they had in enabling Trump.

A day later, I’m now convinced Schumer’s biggest failure was not expecting House GOP to be that united and essentially had no contingency plan for it.

Certainly explains all the terrible comms strat the past day or so.

Oh this is the case he’s absolutely let down his caucus and gotta go.

From the other site. But this is why I’m so mad at Schumer! As a Dem partisan!

FWIW I think the backlash has been intense enough that there’s an above zero percent chance senators reverse course here

I think it’s probably still ~5% or so, but keep calling and keep yelling

I really don’t think they anticipated this, which is another indictment of their political instincts

14.03.2025 01:42 β€” πŸ‘ 3289    πŸ” 476    πŸ’¬ 61    πŸ“Œ 20

Once that’s done you have to COMMIT. You’re already in a lose-lose situation. At that point your caucus has to stay united and jump into hell together. But he watched them jump in and after they burned, said β€œnuh-uh, I rather not”

14.03.2025 01:52 β€” πŸ‘ 12    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

this, plus hanging patty murray out to dry, plus failing to communicate his position *last week before everyone stuck their necks out* are all reasons the caucus has to can him as leader, regardless of what happens with cloture

14.03.2025 03:44 β€” πŸ‘ 925    πŸ” 159    πŸ’¬ 2    πŸ“Œ 4

There’s a ton of hindsight-motivated thinking now. Based on the information earlier there was no way to predict this. House Dems were united and so many conservative Senate Dems were saying no.

That so many people were LEGITIMATELY BLINDSIDED by this, is the reason why this was dumb by Schumer.

14.03.2025 04:15 β€” πŸ‘ 8    πŸ” 2    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Any, and I mean *any*, Senate Dem who votes β€œno” on the CR/cloture vote tomorrow has a better grasp on the direction of the country and is better fit to be in party leadership than Schumer

14.03.2025 07:00 β€” πŸ‘ 2    πŸ” 0    πŸ’¬ 0    πŸ“Œ 0

Forget yelling at Dems to tweet more. THIS is probably what the biggest shortcoming of the various Dem state parties are, and this is where a lot of the yelling will go a long way.

I won't ever say there's nothing to criticize with the democrats, 'cause holy shit they got problems, but articles like THIS fuckin' trash are why we have the current crisis.
