I feel like I say this every year but I really need people to hear it. Halloween is the best American holiday. Just kids outside welcomed into their world, marching around together, showing off their costumes to the elderly, parents meeting parents, neighbors catching up with neighbors.

Trump's mechanism to pay the troops during the shutdown is by far the most illegal budgetary action he's taken as POTUS, potentially setting the stage to break everything.

Seriously, it was a wonderful time. Even the July heat wasn't quite as bad as I thought it would be.

I took my family to DC last month for a sight-seeing vacation.

The number of times I felt unsafe: one. (Because for some reason my hotel's rooftop balcony badly triggered my fear of heights).
