Concurrent validity of scores from phone-based caregiver reports on early childhood development: Evidence from the Early Childhood Development Index 2030 implementation in Nepal The Early Childhood Development Index 2030 (ECDI2030) is a caregiver-reported tool designed to monitor progress toward Sustainable Development Goal ta…

Very cool paper from Kenji Kitamura and co-authors estimating #ECD status with telephone vs. in-person interviews. Using @unicef.org #ECDI203 in Nepal, they find similar results across (randomly assigned) modality. Phone interviews are a reasonable approach!

Estimates of a multidimensional index of nurturing care in the next 1000 days of life for children in low-income and middle-income countries: a modelling study Most children in LMICs are not receiving minimally adequate nurturing care during the next 1000-day period. Further investments in indicator measurement and resources for preschool-age children are ne...

It was such a pleasure to work with @danacmccoy.bsky.social @jorgecuartas.bsky.social, and Lauren Pisani to create the global estimates of nurturing care based on #MICS data and associations with outcomes using #IDELA data.

The series builds on the evidence base of previous Lancet series on ECD and focuses on the changing needs children face as they transition to later early childhood. We highlight a series of key nurturing care supports (and show how often they are lacking) and review the international evidence base.

I am *so* excited that a labor of love on "the next 1,000 days" of child development is out in The Lancet after years of collaboration with an incredible group of authors led by Catherine Draper and Milagros Nores.

From data to action: A validation study of an early childhood education measurement tool High quality early childhood education (ECE) can help improve early childhood development (ECD) outcomes and provide children with a strong foundation for later learning. However, in many contexts, ...

Early Childhood Education observations can be a helpful tool in monitoring the quality of ECE services. Check out a recent blog I wrote with World Bank colleagues summarizing validity evidence of the open-source and free-to-use Teach ECE tool.

Honestly, your presence was one of the reasons I stuck around. I know it's a lot of work, but there are so many who appreciate what you do. I don't know if you'll be continuing it here, but sincere best wishes and thank you for all the lulz.

Excited to present on benchmarks for an #ECD assessment in a session with Lauren Pisani, Hiro Yoshikawa, Carolina Maldonado-Carreño, and Filipa de Castro at #CIES2024. Come join us on Wednesday at 1830 (drink in hand?) for a celebration of a decade of #IDELA.

Plot showing country-level improvements in nurturing care and child development

Plot showing country-level improvements in nurturing care and child development

Many negative things are happening in the world, but so much good as well. @danacmccoy.bsky.social, Jorge Cuartas, and I wrote a research letter in JAMA Pediatrics that shows #nurturingcare for children worldwide is getting better and these improvements are linked to better #ECD.

Oh yes--that is still a challenge. Still waiting for so many of my favorite follows to migrate. Hope I'll be able to find them if/when they do!

I found this somewhat helpful at finding some of my follows (at least the low-hanging fruit!)

Now that I have six followers, I guess I should actually post something. So here is a terrible joke:

What does the stormy Arctic Ocean have in common with an underpowered cluster RCT?

High ICC.
