Summary The shooting that killed Alex Pretti on 1/24/26 was murder. The incident unfolded over just 40sec, but Pretti had been in the vicinity for some time. He never held up an object other than his phone, & never approached any federal agent—but at least twice an agent approached him aggressively. The 1st time he managed to back away, the 2nd time the agent attacked him & prevented him from leaving. Pretti never showed aggression & barely resisted even when grabbed by agents. Ultimately 8 DHS agents were involved in beating Pretti, with several more watching, but just 2 agents were primarily responsible for his murder. 1 instigated the confrontation, & the other fired most or all of the shots. Only these 2 agents drew their guns & pointed them at Pretti. "Agent 1" began the confrontation by chasing after 2 female observers & repeatedly pushing them violently. He then approached Pretti, who was comforting one of the women, & began pepper-spraying & pushing him. He dragged Pretti into the street, where 2 other agents helped hold him down. After a few seconds the attack on Pretti abruptly escalated; likely this was when someone realized he had a (legal) handgun in his waistband. At this point Agent 1 began striking Pretti with a can of pepper spray while another agent dug into his pants for the gun. Pretti never reached for the gun or attempted to use it. "Agent 4" is the shooter. He watched while the gun was removed from Pretti's pants, & unholstered his own gun at the same time. He aimed only after Pretti had been disarmed, then shot an unarmed, restrained man from behind. He fired five shots from point blank range, either from behind or into a prone, dying man. He then backed up & fired at least three more shots from a distance into Pretti's prone body. Beyond the murder, the agents involved also showed astonishing lack of basic law enforcement skills.

Agent 4 prepped for a shooting by transferring his pepper spray to his left hand, but while turning his back to his supposedly dangerous victim.. 5sec later, he attempted to draw his gun while standing so close to another agent he got his gun arm tangled up with him. As he leaned into to fire, he tried to steady himself by leaning his left hand on other agents, who were themselves moving to flee the situation. He shot at Pretti with both bystanders and other agents in his line of fire. He left the scene after the shooting without stopping to render aid. Other agents picked up items from the scene and removed them. One agent stepped over the dying Pretti's legs to leave; he did not stop to render aid.
