With all the discussion I’ve seen around new Trek, the one thing that I always wish to see is a series structured like Enterprise’s third season.
Having the monster-of-the-week connected by one grand voyage where we see the ship slowly break down is exactly the way serialised Trek should be.

How did you feel about Strange New Worlds S3?

I genuinely struggle to think of a way AI generation has been used to actually improve something.
All I can muster is Photoshop’s generative fill, one usage out if god knows how many.

The episode left me in genuine despair, it felt as if all characters and cultures from Trek were just used for cheap jokes. They couldn’t even settle on whether the crew were to be post-emotion-purge or not.

But then it’s followed by an episode I loved so the sour taste was quickly washed away.

Another piece of evidence towards my suspicion that I’m subconsciously a contrarian: I have been to Paris twice now and I really don’t like it.
The architecture is lovely and the city is beautiful, but the people are awful and just general atmosphere is dreadful.
I’m probably wrong!

The Bear remains one of the most incredibly written shows I’ve ever come across, its dialogue and performances never fail to amaze me 4 seasons in

I’ve finally begun watching through the Fast & Furious movies alongside listening to the 2Fast10Forward podcast by @mikebithell.bsky.social & @nerdcubed.co.uk
As I watch I simultaneously understand Mike’s excitement for where the series goes and Dan’s horrific confusion from it, it’s *wild*

Just to immediately swerve back into silliness and exaggeration, then to eventually turn back to grounded realism, and indeed is now headed back toward silliness
Though I must say the current era, not only in CoD, of sequels and throwbacks is beginning to wear thin

The Call of Duty franchise I find fascinating because of its constant swerves back and forth between realism and cartoonish action
What started as a grounded WW2 series became more silly as it went on, just to take a sudden turn into modern realism

I was pleasantly surprised by Captain America: Brave New World
It’s frustrating having to ignore the Israeli-character-shaped elephant in the room, but the film was a fun watch start to finish, with very few aspects that put me off
It’s a BIG step back in the right direction for Marvel

While its map won’t blow any minds, seeing environments I know so well recreated with an earnest attention to detail, resonates with me in an emotional way
I’m definitely being a bit dramatic, but my god playing it makes me feel giddy

A game I’ve found myself revisiting is Forza Horizon 4
Living in Edinburgh and then seeing it recreated gives me a bizarre appreciation for the game, despite my being years late to playing it
Of course, it’s now unbuyable, I was lucky to get it with its DLCs before it was removed

More Black Mirror!

Hotel Reverie was neat but lacked a gut punch
Plaything was super cool & fun but RIP Bandersnatch
Eulogy wasn’t what I was expecting, but man it almost brought me to tears. I feel *a lot* about it but to go in depth would mean being more emotionally open than reasonable for Bsky

Joan is Awful was a solid idea done dirty
Loch Henry gets better the more I think about it
Beyond the Sea was right up my street
Mazey Day was alright
Demon 79 was great fun

Common People was peak Black Mirror, no notes
Bête Noire was a bit much but also great fun

Since finishing my dissertation I’ve been watching a lot of TV
Andor S2 was phenomenal, absolutely blew me away
Black Mirror S6 was decent, I’ll make a separate post about it
Kin is a solid crime family drama, hope S3 happens
Dr Who has been… mixed
Last of Us S2 has also been mixed, but differently

Things have been busy lately
With Uni ending soon I feel very unsure about the future, it's all very daunting
Hence the lack of posts

It has apparently been 2 months since I last posted, which feels a bit insane since it *does not* feel that way
As I grow older my perception of time continues to be a mess!

Making videos is something I really want to get back into, but trying to get over that hump of ‘oh that’s a cool idea’ and *actually* making it is one I’ve struggled with for a long time.
Though Uni has taught me how to make decent video essays, so maybe committing to that is a route!

I’m glad Twitter is finally dying off
Musk is a fucking shitshow of a man who has way too much money and power, but at least a decent number of folk aren’t taking his shit anymore

Been one hell of a half-year but things seem to be getting into rhythm
I’ve been terrible at keeping up posting here, even before things went nuts

Turns out I’m BlueSky user number 1,596,483, kind of neat knowing that

Life has been a bit wild the last month or so, and I’m not out of the woods yet, hence posts have been very sparse
Lots of stuff to work through but there’s hope

Shit’s hit the fan in my personal life but The Boys is still pretty good
I’m also enjoying The Acolyte despite the intense backlash

I’m really enjoying The Boys S4 so far, S3 was great fun with how it leaned in with shock value but in S4 it seems to be done with more *purpose* than just tangents
Plus there’s some really good character development going on and great action sequences

Sorry for being quiet, personal life has been busy and stressful
Going to try get back into posting again

Interestingly it happens most commonly on trains when I’m sat with my left side to the wall, otherwise it’s typically after I touch them though sometimes it just happens randomly
I’ve only had them for two years so it’s a shame that they’re acting up like this

My AirPods Pro have been frustrating me recently
Every now and then the left side will just start pulsing the ANC with a horrible pop and static, but only the left side and regardless whether in noise cancelling or transparency mode
It’s not often enough to stop me using them, but it’s frustrating!
