Finland ends homelessness and provides shelter for all in need - scoop.me In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Why? The country applies the "Housing First" concept agains homelessness.

“In Finland, the number of homeless people has fallen sharply. Those affected receive a small apartment & counselling with no preconditions. 4 out of 5 people affected make their way back into a stable life. And all this is CHEAPER than accepting homelessness.”

It costs a lot less to house people.

Charlie Kirk died in the America he wanted I mourn the loss of human life. I feel compassion, empathy and grief at an inexcusable killing. But I find nothing to lionise in his legacy.

Read @amyremeikis.bsky.social's excellent column on Charlie Kirk that The New Daily saw fit to take down here:

The free speech activist who built a list of professors he worked to get fired for their speech must be celebrated for his support of free speech, and anyone who quotes his speech accurately in context will be fired and/or face state punishment by the champions of free speech, do I have that right?

1. We have normalized having a toddler in the White House who uses random " marks ("HOTTEST"?). How is any of the below normal? How are we okay with this?
2. We have a president who doesn't want us to cover, in our museums "how bad Slavery was". Was it not bad? Imagine if Reagan had said this? FFS

And we report on how the US is “disgusted” at our government’s proposed recognition of Palestine.
I think we no longer need to give a …canard what the US thinks.

Might be time to start actually reporting him as acting as an authoritarian dictator rather than meekly pretending a democracy still exists

Australia's decision to recognise Palestine is not just symbolic It is easy to reduce an assessment of teh recognition of Palestine to claims that it is nothing more than symbolic, or that it will have little practical impact on the ground.

Laura Tingle:

The announcement by the PM and Foreign Minister Penny Wong "may have been a decision for the Australian govt, but it is entirely a part of a coordinated international movement that has been building since at least the beginning of the year." #auspol

Two-thirds of Australians want a review of AUKUS, while less than half think it will make us safer: poll - The Australia Institute 66 per cent of Australians support a Parliamentary Inquiry into the AUKUS security agreement, according to new polling commissioned by The Australia Institute.

New polling by @australiainstitute.org.au has found that 66% of Australians support a parliamentary inquiry into Aukus. A previous poll found 57% support.

In a healthy democracy, scrutiny of a deal the size and scope of Aukus should be welcomed.

The children know not to go near them. They're largely harmless, but they are wild animals and need to be respected as such. They generally will just hop away if they think you're getting too close. It's fantastic to have them around. We also have koalas but they're not as visible as the kangaroos.

What, exactly, are we celebrating this Fourth of July?

Our cutting off healthcare to the needy to enrich the greedy?

Our new concentration camps?

Our dying economy?

Our ditching due process?

Our corruption?

Our broken Congress?

Our corrupt Supreme Court?

Our ridiculous buffoon President?
