The recommendation is that the writ period be 36 days rather than 29, citing overlapping candidate nominations and special ballot voting, among other challenges in a non-fixed election.
Ontario is removing fixed election dates this sitting.
The province will not be making any adjustments to the writ period as part of its proposed electoral reforms, despite a recommendation from Elections Ontario. ๐

Elections Ontario CEO Greg Essensa says the provincial election budget is about $189M, and would have been similar if an election was called in June 2026.
