It is difficult to summarize how bad this administration is (it’s part of why I have the In Front of Our Nose series, because it is just so much). I suspect that if, for some reason, you are reading this but think Trump is a normal president, nothing I can say will disuade you, and if you agree with me that he is a clear threat to the constitutional order, I don’t need to make a list. I will just note the following. He is usurping congressional authority on spending and staffing, and therefore literally ignoring the law. He has empowered ICE to violate due process. He has ordered the military to commit murder in the Caribbean (and they have complied). He has publicly directed the Attorney General to go after his enemies because he, Trump, declares them to be guilty. He has pardoned/commuted the sentences of ~1500 people who tried to disrupt a constitutional process. All the while, he and his family have been enriching themselves because he is president. Oh, and the Supreme Court has said he is immune from prosecution for anything linked to his “official duties.” The fact that the above is my short version of the situation is more than a bit disturbing.

Logan here is acting befuddled at the basic Lockean framework articulated in the Declaration: the right of revolution is a last resort in extremis. There is always the obligation to exhaust all other options first. Hardly an obscure idea, it's literally one of the most famous documents in the world.

Why should corruption be the central organizing message for Democrats? Let me explain my reasoning.

First, corruption -- by which I mean political figures using power in illegal or otherwise inappropriate ways to further their own interests and that of their friends -- is unpopular on its own.

Every. Single. Day.

It is not about Kimmel or what he said. It is about the US government forcing a network to fire someone - no government should have that power. If the network decided this on their own, that’s one thing. But in this case they absolutely did not.

Don’t you dare call us fascists, they say, as they force people off the airwaves for criticizing them while vowing to crush and criminalize their opposition.

I'll say this again:

In my opinion, when companies and institutions cave to Trump despite the law being on their side, they are not misunderstanding the law; they are making an educated guess that the United States is heading in a direction where, in practice, the law won't matter.

The trans partner of Tyler Robinson had no knowledge about it and was told to delete messages but didn't and instead turned them immediately over to the police and cooperated.

Yet, the right is demonizing her and blame everything on trans people despite the trans person here doing the right thing.

All the people being fired for telling the truth about Charlie Kirk—many of them women—in the aftermath of his death demonstrates that his legacy was never one about universal free speech.

It was only ever about about straight, white, conservative Christian men spouting bigotry without consequence.

Pay attention. Something dark might be coming.

The murder of Charlie Kirk could have united Americans to confront political violence. Instead, Trump and his anti-democratic radicals look to be readying a campaign to destroy dissent.

This may explain why there’s an aggressive response to people who merely post Kirk’s own words. It threatens the existence of the alternate Kirk - the motivational speaker that had been marketed to young kids and white Christian groups through selective quotation & clips.

We don’t yet know the extent of how deeply disturbed Charlie Kirk’s assassin was. We do know this: the day after the murder, at least a dozen HBCUs were hit with a wave of terrorist threats. That pattern is no coincidence. Someone out there wanted Black students to feel fear.

This article sums up my thoughts and feelings about Kirk's murder. I absolutely reject violence and wish he hadn't been killed. But I won't celebrate his life. He contributed a LOT to the divisions breaking this country in half and did much more harm than good.
