I miss web 1.0.

Half the site feels like Elon Musk Stan bot accounts. It’s surreal.

Then there’s the NFT crypto web3 cult stuff. 🐰🕳️

Absolutely! Can’t wait to see how your story progresses!

I feel this in my core!

The thing about art is that most people don’t even try to do the thing. The fact that you are means you’re already past the hard part! So keep doing your art thing and you’ll be okay.

40k is a lot, be proud! Congrats!

He no longer carries himself like a man. Men hesitated. Men sweat. Men bled. He had shed all of that. This synthetic body wasn’t disguise—it was continuity. His will carved into carbon and polymer, draped in a suit stitched from a weave reserved for heads of state and the corpses of oligarchs.

Flesh had been a leash. Hunger, shit, sleep—all little humiliations. He’d shed them the way a snake leaves its skin behind. Now he could step into the system or out of it at will, and every blink of this new body reminded him he was no longer bound to mortality.

I finally have something to add again! Super early WIP on this one, spoiler (a bit) since this is book 2. Elias Reiss has evolved, too bad for rest of the world.

Oh, this is one of those hills I’m happy to die on every so often. We are living in 1984.

Every year I think I have time for side projects and every year Halloween comes by as if it’s a surprise.

You’d think I’d learn this is my busy season.

At any rate Maroon needed an extra few weeks, but I’ll push it out as soon as it’s available (I don’t do this whole marketing thing very well). 💀

I read 1984.
And Fahrenheit 451.
And A Brave New World. And The Handmaid‘s Tale.
And The Giver.
And The Road.
And The Lottery.
And The Parable of the Sower.
And The Hunger Games.

I know what I’m seeing.

He felt something right beneath the skin of the system. A pull. He leaned in, muscles tight, as an ache sparked low and insistent. Every nerve twitching with desire. If she so much as whispered his name now, he knew—

He’d devour her.

Still drafting the second book that this excerpt is from, but Labor Day felt like the right time to share this passage. #laborday #dystopia #latestagecapitalism

Sarah’s breath caught slightly. A fight-or-flight response bleeding through her psychological conditioning. “I was… deeply moved by the Architect’s words. Sometimes profound emotion creates processing strain.”

Ray tilted his head, analyzing her excuse. The response was plausible but felt rehearsed, as if she’d been preparing explanations for questions she shouldn’t have anticipated.

He watched her closely.

This is what passes for intimacy under surveillance.

She withdrew carefully, dismantling her makeshift connection and sealing the pathway behind her. Every trace scrubbed clean. The system would read her activity as routine maintenance, maybe even reward her with a small efficiency boost for good behavior.

This is early Chapter 1 where our two protagonists make a small connection.

Ray didn’t flinch. “I want to ensure we’re aligned before I submit a formal request.”
The Architect leaned back. Let the moment stretch. “And if we’re not?” He was testing Ray’s commitment while establishing plausible deniability for whatever followed.

Ray’s eyes didn’t move. “Then I never asked.”
Ray held for a calculated moment before he chose to strike. “There’s a statistical correlation,” he said. “Between a janitorial node’s recent activity and Node 2,431,092’s behavior during the post maintenance cycle.”

Just your average corporate data janitor, statistically correlated with a behavioral anomaly in the Architect’s favorite doll.

Nothing to see here.

“Maybe that’s why she responds to other people.” Marcus pressed on relentlessly. “Maybe she’s looking for someone who doesn’t need to own her to feel like a man.”

“You know what the really pathetic part is?” Marcus’s voice dropped to a whisper that somehow carried more venom than shouting. “You had infinite power. Unlimited resources. You could have built anything, created worlds, solved actual problems. And what did you do with it?”

The Architect was frozen, his face cycling through micro-expressions of rage and pain.

“You built yourself a girlfriend simulator because you’re too broken to connect with another human being without administrative privileges.”

It was cathartic for me to write this part. Marcus gets to say what we are all thinking.

I missed the punctuation in this at first, another great reason to do these everyday!
