You are upset that they put Magic cards in Magic card art. I am upset that Urban Evolution is the perfect card name for the Turtles set and is fine if weak to be reprinted at five mana. We are not the same.

So much of the hate for the TMNT set just feels like this to me

Obviously I don't want people to be forced to like TMNT or UB in magic but it annoys me to see how often the general negativity surrounding it just kinda dilutes the conversation to being really similar complaints. (8/8)

Those are the main two complaints I've seen recently, and while I'm no expert on how magic works business-wise it is kinda annoying seeing how much of this is being blamed on turtles as a set seemingly because of the general bias against it. (7/?)

The other complaint is how I've seen people get upset that TMNT is stealing Lorwyn's thunder by coming out so soon. This one I get more but it's weird to see it treated as a uniquely UB thing rather than a general issue with the game, as seen by last year's Dragonstorm overtaking Aetherdrift (6/?)

If you count how many members of the fellowship and team avatar get legendary cards, their numbers total at 30 and 32 respectively. And for avatar I was generous not to include momo, appa, or the blue spirit. So not only is TMNT not breaking the threshold, it's only barely going past it (5/?)

Beyond just how the post oversimplifies the fact that said turtles occupy a very specific draft slot and so likely won't be seen in *that* much abundance the fact that they're grouped like that to make it seem worse than it is just kinda bugs me. (4/?)

The main complaint I want to address is the one about "32 legendary turtles" as if it's some horrible omen for the game going forward. Because like. Lord of the Rings and Avatar also did that (3/?)

First of all let me say that it's fair to be upset about UB as a whole. This post is specifically about defending the turtles from someone who generally enjoys UB stuff (2/?)

I hope this doesn't come across as me making fun of beans taking turns but it really annoys me how many of the complaints for the tmnt magic: the gathering set are also problems that apply to other magic sets (UB but also non UB) and yet they're treated as if they're uniquely tmnt issues (1/?)

I think the best way I can explain it is that turtles feels like a series that benefits from the sort of realistic stylization that magic leans into whereas marvel feels weird and a bit shiny when you try and adapt comic book heroes to that style

While I think it's fair to be anti-UB and anti-tmnt set, I feel like the tmnt cards have been a lot better at leaning into magic's aesthetic than people are willing to credit them for
